''SortlandsAvisa'' (The Sortland Gazette) is a local Norwegian newspaper published in the municipality of Sortland in Nordland county. ''SortlandsAvisa'' is a politically independent newspaper. It is published every Thursday, and is edited by Geir Bjørn Nilsen. The newspaper was launched on January 10, 2008. The founder of ''SortlandsAvisa'' and its first editor was Gard Lehne Borch Michalsen, who now heads the media site Medier24. The newspaper is printed by HTG Trykk AS in Harstad. The National Association of Local Newspapers ( no, Landslaget for lokalaviser, LLA) is a Norwegian association for local newspapers. The organization was established in Voss in 1976, and it works for its member companies' general conditions and interests. Among the first issues it dealt with was inclusion of the smallest local newspapers in the direct press support system, which occurred in 1989. The association is now a co-owner of the Norwegian Audit Bureau of Circulations, the company responsible for monitoring newspapers' circulation figures. These figures are the basis for receiving press subsidies. The association also represents its member companies in various government agencies and committees. The National Association of Local Newspapers is not a tariff organization, and therefore does not negotiate on behalf of its member companies. Sortland
or is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Vesterålen. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Sortland. Other population centres in Sortland include Bø, Holand, Holmstad, Liland, Sigerfjord, Strand, and Vik. The Norwegian Coast Guard has its northern base in Sortland, called ''Kystvaktskvadron Nord''. In 1997, the municipal council declared "town status" for the urban area of Sortland. Sortland is the largest town and commercial centre in Vesterålen. The town of Sortland is located close to the Sortland Bridge which crosses the Sortlandsundet strait and connects the two large islands of Langøya and Hinnøya by road.
