Sormovsky City District
Sormovsky City District (), or Sormovo (), is one of the eight districts of the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It occupies the northwestern corner of the city, adjacent to the Volga River. Population: History The village originally known as Soromovo () had existed since 1542. In 1849, the Sormovo Works—soon one of Russia's most important machine-building plants, later known as Krasnoye Sormovo—was founded; its owner had the village renamed to more euphonic ''Sormovo''. Although legally a village, it soon grew into a large workers' settlement; in 1922, Sormovo became a city; in 1929, it was amalgamated into the city of Nizhny Novgorod, becoming one of its districts. It is one of the city's industrial districts. Besides Krasnoye Sormovo, its well-known enterprises include the Volga Shipyard (which was spun off from Krasnoye Sormovo in 1970, and is geographically adjacent to its parent plant) and the Sormovo Confectionery Factory (). Nizhny Novgorod Oblast () is a federal subjects of Russia, federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the types of inhabited localities in Russia, city of Nizhny Novgorod. Sokol Aircraft Plant
Sokol Aircraft Plant () is a manufacturer of MiG fighters, based in Nizhny Novgorod. It was founded in 1932 and is also known as "Aviation Plant Nr. 21", named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze. During 45 years of serial production the plant manufactured about 13,500 combat aircraft. The company is headquartered in Nizhny Novgorod. Their main production facility, with the adjacent airfield (known in the west as Sormovo Airfield) is located on the western outskirts of the city, in Moskovsky City District. For a long time, it was considered that district's most important industrial enterprise and main employer. The "Sormovo" appellation attached to the plant's air field may be because formerly (1956–1970) today's Moskovsky District was part of the Sormovo District. Zavolzhye () is a types of inhabited localities in Russia, town in Gorodetsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Volga River, opposite Gorodets, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Gorodets, the administrative centre of the district, and northwest of Nizhny Novgorod, the administrative center of the oblast. Balakhna
Balakhna () is a town and the administrative center of Balakhninsky District in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Volga River, north of Nizhny Novgorod, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: 33,500 (1968). It was previously known as ''Sol-na-Gorodtse''. Overview It was founded in 1474 as Sol-na-Gorodtse (). After the Khan of Kazan razed it to the ground in 1536, a wooden fort was constructed to protect the settlement against further Tatar incursions. Moskovskaya (Nizhny Novgorod Metro)
Moskovskaya () is a station on both Line 1 and Line 2 line of the Nizhny Novgorod Metro. It was one of the first six stations to open on the line on 20 November 1985. It is also the only station that permits transfers from one line to the other. Passengers may also transfer to the main Nizhny Novgorod railway station. Also, the metro station Moskovskaya is a transfer hub to the station of the City Rail Nizhny Novgorod-Moskovsky. Until 2012, it was the northern terminus of the Avtozavodskaya line and, until the opening of Strelka station in 2018, it was the eastern terminus of the Sormovsko–Meshcherskaya line. Nizhny Novgorod railway station ( until 2010 Gorky-Moskovsky ) is a central station in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It was opened on August 2, 1862. History The station in Nizhny Novgorod was built in 1862, when the Moscow-Vladimir, Russia, Vladimir railway was extended. On August 2, 1862, traffic was opened on the section Vladimir - Nizhny Novgorod. The station became the final point for the Gorky Railway, Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod railway. It consisted of three two-storey buildings connected by passages to the lobby in the center, waiting rooms, mail, telegraph, buffets and restaurants. A clock was installed on the central tower. Inside the building walls were decorated with mosaic panels on heroic themes. In 1894, the imperial (tsardom) pavilion was built for the arrival of imperial persons in the city. Gorky Railway
The Gorky Railway (Горьковская железная дорога) is a subsidiary of the Russian Railways headquartered in Nizhny Novgorod (formerly known as Gorky, hence the name). The railway network serves nine federal subjects of the Russian Federation: Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Vladimir Oblast, Kirov Oblast, Ryazan Oblast, Mordovia, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Tatarstan, and Mari El. Its railway route length approximates 7987 km. Construction of the mainline from Moscow through Vladimir to Nizhny Novgorod started in May 1858 and was completed within four years. This private enterprise was acquired by the imperial government in 1893. The Murom Railway was opened in 1880.
