Sorel, Somme
Sorel () is a Communes of France, commune in the Somme (department), Somme Departments of France, department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. Geography Sorel is situated southwest of Cambrai, on the D222 road, only a couple of miles from the border with the Pas-de-Calais department. Population History The village was completely rebuilt after the devastation wrought by World War I. Léon de Sorel, marquis de Sorel (1655 – 4 November 1743) was a French naval officer and colonial administrator who was governor of Saint-Domingue in 1719–1723. Family Léon marquis de Sorel (1655-1743) was from a family from the Bailiwick of Noyon. His parents were Charles, seigneur de Villiers and Jeanne du Montel. He was grandson of Robert de Sorel and Antoinette des Essarts, and great-grandson of Florent de Sorel. On 23 March 1699 in Rennes he married Marie Louise Marguerite de Marnière. They had a boy, Charles Gilles Léon (2 January 1701 – 24 May 1767). In 1708 he married Catherine Allain, widow of Cosme de Séran. Kaufman Footwear was a Kitchener, Ontario-based shoe company. It was known for its Sorel brand. History The Kaufman Rubber Company was founded by Jacob Kaufman and his son Alvin Ratz Kaufman in 1908, in Berlin, Ontario - what is now Kitchener, Ontario. It became Kaufman Footwear in 1964. A.R. Kaufman took over as president of the company in 1920, a position he held until 1964, when his son, William H. Kaufman, assumed the role. A. R. Kaufman was a leading Canadian eugenicist who encouraged sterilization of his workers. History Sorel was originally a line of winter sport/work boots that were introduced in 1962 by the Kaufman Rubber Company of Kitchener, Ontario. They became its most successful product line.
