Sorae Church
Sorae Church or Solnae Church () was established Songcheon () in 1883. It is considered the first Protestant church in Korea. Establishment Seo Sang-ryun (서상륜) with his younger brother Gyeong-jo (경조) went to Manchuria in 1878 to peddle red ginseng, but he caught typhoid fever in Yingkou and he was in trouble no longer to peddle. At this time, with the help of Ross and Mcintire, he was hospitalized and treated for his illness, which led him to become a Christian. In 1883, he attempted to enter Korea with a Korean translated Bible, but was imprisoned by the Chinese government and soon escaped. Ryongyon County
Ryongyŏn County is a county in western South Hwanghae province, North Korea. Its Yellow Sea coast is known for its natural environment and as an important habitat for plants and birds. Ryongyŏn was the first place in which Protestant Christianity was established in Korea, in the late 19th century. Geography Ryongyŏn is a coastal county of 463 km2, facing the Yellow Sea to the south and northwest. It also borders Changyon county to the northeast, and Taetan county to the east. Seo Sang-ryun
Seo Sang-ryun (, 1848–1926), along with his brother Seo Sang-u (), founded the first Protestant church in Korea in 1884. It was established in the village of Sorae Church, Sorae, Hwanghae Province, where his uncle lived. He was born into the Daegu Seo Clan. Seo Sang-ryun was involved in the trade of ginseng in Manchuria and fell ill, coming close to death. He would be nursed back to health by the Scottish Protestant missionary John Macintyre and baptized by John Ross (missionary), John Ross. Seo would later assist Ross in the translation of the gospel of Luke, helping to produce the first translation of the Bible into Korean language, Korean. Typhoid fever, also known simply as typhoid, is a disease caused by '' Salmonella enterica'' serotype Typhi bacteria, also called ''Salmonella'' Typhi. John Ross (missionary)
John Ross (1842–1915), (his Chinese name: ) was a Scottish Protestant missionary to Northeast China who established Dongguan Church in Shenyang. He is also known for translating the first Korean Bible and being the first to introduce spacing to Korean punctuation. Life John Ross was born at Rarichie in Easter Ross where Gaelic was his native language. He received his education at Fearn School, University of Glasgow and Theological Hall, Edinburgh. In 1872 he was sent by the Scottish United Presbyterian Mission () to Northeast China, known at that time as Manchuria. John Ross, called in , went first to Yingkou, then moved to Mukden (the present-day Shenyang) and established a church there in 1889.
