Sophronius (theologian)
Sophronius (; ) was a Christian theologian and translator of the late 4th century AD, a friend of Jerome. In Jerome's ''De viris illustribus (Jerome), De viris illustribus'', he writes that Sophronius wrote "In praise of Bethlehem," which was Jerome's hometown; it is believed that Sophronius was a native speaker of Koine Greek, Greek and that he also lived in Bethlehem as part of Jerome's learned community. Sophronius II Of Constantinople
Sophronius II of Constantinople (; died 19 October 1780) served as Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople during the period 1775–1780 and, as Sophronius V (Σοφρώνιος Ε΄), Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem in 1771–1774. He was born in Aleppo, Syria. He served as metropolitan bishop of Ptolemais (of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem) and in 1771 he was elected Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem as Sophronius V. In 1774, he was elected Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople as Sophronius II. During his reign, a Synod in Constantinople condemned the Kollyvades. He was an educated and ascetic Patriarch and was especially preoccupied with education and the economics of the Patriarchates he ministered. Sophronius III of Constantinople (; 1802 – 22 August 1899) served as list of ecumenical patriarchs of Constantinople, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 1863 to 1866. Saint Sophronius of Vratsa (or Sofroniy Vrachanski; ; 1739–1813), born Stoyko Vladislavov (), was a Bulgarian cleric and one of the leading figures of the early Bulgarian National Revival. Biography Vladislavov was born in the town of Kotel in Eastern Bulgaria in 1739 to the family of a cattle trader. His father, Vladislav died in 1750 in Istanbul of the plague. When Stoiko was 3 years old his mother, Maria, died and his father remarried.
