The National Council (, ) is one of the two houses of the Austrian Parliament and is frequently referred to as the lower house. The Politics of Austria, constitution endows the National Council with far more power than the Federal Council (Austria), Federal Council. Responsibilities The National Council is where Austria's federal legislature, legislative authority is concentrated; for a bill to become federal law, it must be resolved upon by this chamber. NEOS (Austria)
NEOS – The New Austria and Liberal Forum () is a liberal political party in Austria. It was founded as NEOS – The New Austria in 2012. In 2014, NEOS merged with Liberal Forum and adopted its current name. Since 2018, Beate Meinl-Reisinger has been NEOS's chairwoman and was parliamentary leader until 2025, with Yannick Shetty taking over the position. It won 8.3% in the 2019 legislative election and 9.1% in the 2024 Austrian legislative election. NEOS is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, and its two MEPs sit with the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament. NEOS is represented in six of Austria's nine Landtage, and has been a coalition partner in the Vienna state and city government together with the SPÖ since 2020, and from 2018 to 2023 together with the ÖVP and the Greens in the state government in Salzburg. 2024 Austrian Legislative Election
General election, Legislative elections were held in Austria on 29 September 2024 to elect the 28th National Council (Austria), National Council, the lower house of Austria's bicameral parliament. The election saw the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) place first, winning 28.8% of the vote and achieving the best result in the party's history. JUNOS – Young liberal NEOS () is the youth wing of Austrian liberal NEOS – The New Austria, NEOS party, and a full member of liberal youth organizations International Federation of Liberal Youth and European Liberal Youth.
