Sophie Roux
Sophie Roux (born 1965) is a French historian of science and philosopher of science focusing on the early modern period of European science, including Cartesianism and its opponents, thought experiments and mathematical modeling, and the history of the philosophy of science. She is a professor of the history and philosophy of science at the École normale supérieure (Paris). Education and career Roux was born in Paris in 1965. She was a student at the École normale supérieure beginning in 1984, and passed the agrégation in philosophy in 1987. She earned two Master of Advanced Studies degrees, one in philosophy through Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University under the direction of Michel Serres in 1989, and a second one in history of science through the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) under the direction of . Pierre Mendès-France University
Pierre Mendès-France University (UPMF, french: Université Pierre Mendès France, also known as Grenoble II) was a French university, based in Grenoble, focused on social sciences. It was named after the late French politician Pierre Mendès-France. It is now part of the Université Grenoble Alpes. Its campus was located mainly in Grenoble, with some facilities outside the city, in particular in Valence. It was established in 1339 as part of University of Grenoble. The Institut Universitaire de France (IUF, Academic Institute of France), is a service of the French Ministry of Higher Education that distinguishes each year a small number of university professors for their research excellence, as evidenced by their international recognition. It was created to become a new "Collège de France", located in French universities. Only 2% of French university professors have been currently distinguished by the Institut Universitaire de France. Daniel Garber (born 1949) is an American philosopher. He is the A. Watson Armour, III, University Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University. He is a specialist in the history of early modern philosophy and science. Education and career Garber earned all his degrees from Harvard University including his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1975 under the direction of Roderick Firth and Hilary Putnam. Habilitation is the highest university degree, or the procedure by which it is achieved, in many European countries. The candidate fulfills a university's set criteria of excellence in research, teaching and further education, usually including a dissertation. The degree, abbreviated "Dr. habil."
