Sophie Becker (born 16 May 1997) is an Irish Sprint (running), sprinter specialising in the 400 m. She represented Ireland at the Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Mixed 4 × 400 metres relay, Olympic Games and 2023 World Athletics Championships – Women's 4 × 400 metres relay, World Championships and won a silver medal at the 2024 European Athletics Championships with the 2024 European Athletics Championships – Women's 4 × 400 metres relay, women's 4 x 400 metres relay team, which set a new List of Irish records in athletics, Irish national record. Early life and education Becker is from Ballykelly in County Wexford where she competed in underage Gaelic football for Horeswood GAA. She later attended St Mary's Secondary School in New Ross. She graduated with a degree in genetics and cell biology from Dublin City University. 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships was held from 4 to 7 March 2021 at the Arena Toruń in Toruń, Poland. This was the second time this event was held in Poland after the 1975 edition in Katowice. The four-day competition featured 13 men's and 13 women's athletics events. Altogether 659 athletes from 46 countries participated in the event which is a record in the competition's history. The Netherlands topped the medal table for the first time with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Katarzynka, a gingerbread, was the mascot. 2025 World Athletics Relays
The 2025 World Athletics Relays was held at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium in Guangzhou, China on 10 and 11 May 2025. It was the 7th edition of the World Athletics Relays and the first time the event was held in China. The 2025 edition was the first edition to feature a mixed 4 × 100 metres relay. Overview Initially, Guangzhou was awarded to host the 2023 World Athletics Relays, which would be held on 13 and 14 May 2023. On 31 October 2022, it was announced that the championships would be postponed to 2025 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
