Sophia Antonia Smith (; born 18 November 1978) is a retired soccer player who played as a midfielder. Born in the United States, she was a member of the Greece national team, having previously played for Cornell University and the Houston Stars. College career Smith played for the Cornell Big Red women's soccer team as a striker noted for her speed. During her junior year in 1999, she was the leading scorer on the team, with seven goals and four assists. She lettered for three years, for a college career total of nine goals and seven assists, including two game-winning goals for Cornell. She was unable to return to competition for her senior year due to an invasive knee surgery for a torn ACL, sustained during the previous year's season finale against Yale. Sophia Smith (Smith College)
Sophia Smith (August 27, 1796 – June 12, 1870) founded Smith College in 1870 with the substantial estate she inherited from her father, who was a wealthy farmer, and her six siblings, who had all predeceased her. An avid reader, Smith attended schools in Hatfield, Massachusetts, and Hartford, Connecticut. She later attended Hopkins Academy in Hadley, Massachusetts. Early life Born as the first daughter into a family of three boys, Sophia Smith soon became the caretaker for the following three children (all girls). Sophia Olivia Wilson (; born August 10, 2000) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States national team. Sofia Tekela-Smith (born 1970) is a New Zealand-Rotuman artist specialising in jewellery and body adornments. Her work is held in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum New York Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. Life Tekela-Smith was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1970 to Meriama Sauitu, who was from the island of Rotuma, and John Smith, from Glasgow, Scotland.
