Sophia Lois Suckling
Sophia Lois Suckling (12 August 1893 – 20 June 1990) was a notable New Zealand optician and family planning reformer. Early life Sophia Lois Anthony (known as Lois) was born in Bondi, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 12 August 1893 to Clara Emma (née Ackland) and Stephen Anthony (formerly Nowinsky), a Polish draughtsman. The family were members of the Plymouth Brethren and in 1900 migrated to Amodeo Bay, on the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand, an area where other Brethren were settled. Her father became an apiarist and her mother encouraged her daughter to love literature and learning which stood her in good stead later in life. Career Lois and Edgar Suckling set up an opticians firm, Suckling and Suckling, on Brandon Street, Wellington. Bondi () is a suburb of eastern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, seven kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Waverley Council. Arnos Grove
Arnos Grove () is an area of north London, England, within the London Borough of Enfield. It is centred north of Charing Cross. It is adjacent to New Southgate. The natural grove, larger than today, was for many centuries the largest woodland in the chapelry of Southgate in the parish of Edmonton. It became inter-related with Arnos Park when its owner was permitted to enclose much of its area through the widespread legal practice of inclosure of the common land to create the former park, the heart of which is now public parkland. It is close to its borough's borders with two others: Barnet and Haringey. The area is centred 1km north of the North Circular Road. The modern area of Arnos Grove is centred on the western end of Bowes Road. The estate from which it gets its name centred on what is now Morton Crescent. Birth is the act or process of bearing or bringing forth offspring, also referred to in technical contexts as parturition. Fabian Society
The Fabian Society is a British socialist organisation whose purpose is to advance the principles of social democracy and democratic socialism via gradualist and reformist effort in democracies, rather than by revolutionary overthrow. The Fabian Society was also historically related to radicalism, a left-wing liberal tradition. As one of the founding organisations of the Labour Representation Committee in 1900, and as an important influence upon the Labour Party which grew from it, the Fabian Society has had a powerful influence on British politics.
