Soperton is a city in Treutlen County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,889 in 2020. The city is the county seat of Treutlen County. History A post office was established at Soperton in 1902. The city was named after Benjamin Franklin Soper, a railroad official. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Soperton as a town in 1902. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and (0.61%) is water. Demographics As of the 2020 United States census, there were 2,889 people, 1,088 households, and 699 families residing in the city. Treutlen County ( ) is a county located in the southern portion and Magnolia midlands portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,406. The county seat is Soperton. Treutlen County is host to the Million Pines Arts and Crafts Festival which takes place during the first weekend in November. History Before colonization, the area was home to the Muscogee. Following the American Revolution, the location's wiregrass ('' Aristida stricta'') attracted settlers, and a timber industry began to develop around the area's longleaf pine forests, supporting occupations from cabinetmaking and milling to turpentine and other naval stores production. The area's landscape made it difficult to build roads, resulting in a sparse population until after the Civil War when railroads arrived.
