Sonny Merideth
Horace Lavelle "Sonny" Merideth Jr. (December 7, 1930 – September 5, 2017) was an American lawyer and politician. Early life Horace Lavelle "Sonny" Merideth Jr. was born on December 7, 1930, in Swiftwater, Mississippi to H. L. Merideth Sr. and Cassel Boatright Merideth. He was raised in James. He graduated from Riverside Consolidated High School in Washington County in 1948 and received an undergraduate degree in accounting from Mississippi State University four years later. Political career In 1959 Merideth won election to the Mississippi House of Representatives, where he served from 1960 to 1992. He served as a floor leader on behalf of Buddie Newman when the latter served as speaker of the house and was one of his staunchest supporters. He chaired the House Ways and Means Committee from 1980 to 1988. A gambling ship is a sea vessel of any kind on which gambling takes place. Historically, international waters began just from land in many countries. Gambling ships, like offshore radio stations, would usually be anchored just outside the three-mile limit. When the extent of territorial waters were redefined to 12 nautical miles—approximately —maintaining a gambling ship became much more uneconomic. In the United States, some states tried to control the effect of gambling ships through the use of state statutes. Gulf Breeze is a city in Santa Rosa County, Florida. It is a suburb of Pensacola, and is in the Pensacola Metropolitan Area. The population estimate was 6,900 in 2020. Gulf Breeze is located just north of Pensacola Beach, and south of Pensacola. Gulf Breeze is on the Fairpoint Peninsula, and is bordered by Navarre to the east. Gulf Breeze provides utility services to South Santa Rosa County and Pensacola Beach over 33 square miles. The surrounding unincorporated area is known as Greater Gulf Breeze. Thomas Arlin Gollott (born September 29, 1935) is a businessman and former state legislator in Mississippi. A Democrat, he served as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives and Mississippi Senate before becoming a Republican in 2007. He represented the 50th District from 1980 to 2020. Mississippi Sound
The Mississippi Sound is a sound along the Gulf Coast of the United States. It runs east-west along the southern coasts of Mississippi and Alabama, from Waveland, Mississippi, to the Dauphin Island Bridge, a distance of about . The sound is separated from the Gulf on its southern side by the Mississippi–Alabama barrier islands: Cat, Ship, Horn, West Petit Bois (formerly known as Sand Island), Petit Bois, and Dauphin. Mississippi–Alabama Barrier Islands
The Mississippi–Alabama barrier islands are a chain of barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico along the coasts of Mississippi and Alabama enclosing the Mississippi Sound. The major islands are Cat Island, Ship Island, Horn Island, Petit Bois Island, and Dauphin Island; in the early 20th century the chain also included the Isle of Caprice, which has since been submerged. The islands are separated by wide inlets, several of which have been channelized to form the shipping channels for Gulf coast ports. The shapes and sizes of the islands have changed significantly since the 1800s, with the islands generally shrinking and shifting westward, especially after major tropical cyclones. Biloxi
Biloxi ( ; ) is a city in and one of two county seats of Harrison County, Mississippi, United States (the other being the adjacent city of Gulfport). The 2010 United States Census recorded the population as 44,054 and in 2019 the estimated population was 46,212. The area's first European settlers were French colonists. The city is part of the Gulfport–Biloxi metropolitan area and the Gulfport–Biloxi–Pascagoula, MS Combined Statistical Area.
