Sonner Stadium
Richard L. Jantz Stadium (formerly "Sonner Stadium") is a sport stadium in Winfield, Kansas, United States. The facility is primarily used by the Southwestern College Moundbuilders football and track & field teams. The grass field is named "Art Kahler Field" from prominent Southwestern alum Art Kahler and the surrounding track is named "Monypenny Track" in honor of alum William Monypenny. Sunflower Bowl The facility hosted the Sunflower Bowl during the bowl's entire operation, from 1982 to 1986. The stadium is also used for local high school sporting events and other community events. Rebuilding In January 2009, the school announced plans for a major renovation, including changing the name from "Sonner Stadium" to "Richard L. Jantz Stadium". The renovations are expected to attract better student-athletes and bigger events to Winfield. Winfield is a city and county seat of Cowley County, Kansas, United States. It is situated along the Walnut River in South Central Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 11,777. It is home to Southwestern College. History 19th century Winfield was founded in 1870. It was named for Rev. The Southwestern Moundbuilders are the athletic teams that represent Southwestern College, located in Winfield, Kansas, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) since the 1958–59 academic year; which they were a member on a previous stint from 1902–03 to 1922–23. Art Kahler
Arthur Daniel Kahler Sr. (December 27, 1897 – April 23, 1982) was an American college football and basketball player and coach. He was listed in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" as only person to coach at two different major colleges at the same time—head basketball coach at Brown University and football coach at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He later became a coach and athletic director at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Playing career Kahler played football at Southwestern from 1918 until 1922.
