Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball
''Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball'', also known as ''Sonic Spinball'', is a 1993 pinball video game developed by Sega Technical Institute and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. It is a spin-off of the ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' series. Players control Sonic the Hedgehog, who must stop Doctor Robotnik from enslaving the population in a giant pinball-like mechanism. The game is set in a series of pinball machine-like environments with Sonic acting as the pinball. It was developed by the American staff of Sega Technical Institute, as the Japanese staff was occupied with developing ''Sonic the Hedgehog 3'' and ''Sonic & Knuckles''. When Sega management realized that ''Sonic 3'' would not be completed in time for the 1993 holiday shopping season, they commissioned another ''Sonic'' game. After a hasty nine-month development, ''Sonic Spinball'' was released for the Sega Genesis in November 1993, with ports for the Game Gear and Master System releasing in 1994. ''Sonic Spinball'' rece ...

Sega Technical Institute
Sega Technical Institute (STI) was an American video game developer owned by Sega. Founded by the Atari veteran Mark Cerny in 1990, STI sought to combine elite Japanese developers, including the Sonic Team programmer Yuji Naka and his team, with new American talent. STI developed games for Sega Genesis, including several ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' games, before it was closed at the end of 1996. After working in Japan for Sega on games for the Master System, Cerny proposed the creation of a development studio in America, which was approved. When Naka quit Sega after the release of ''Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 video game), Sonic the Hedgehog'', Cerny convinced him to join STI. After completing ''Sonic the Hedgehog 2'' in 1992, STI was divided in two due to friction between the Japanese and American developers: the Japanese developed ''Sonic the Hedgehog 3'' and ''Sonic & Knuckles'' before leaving in 1994, while the Americans developed games including ''Sonic Spinball''. The failed devel ...

Multiplayer Video Game
A multiplayer video game is a video game in which more than one person can play in the same game environment at the same time, either locally on the same computing system (couch co-op), on different computing systems via a local area network, or via a wide area network, most commonly the Internet (e.g. ''World of Warcraft'', '' Call of Duty'', ''DayZ''). Multiplayer games usually require players to share a single game system or use networking technology to play together over a greater distance; players may compete against one or more human contestants, work cooperatively with a human partner to achieve a common goal, or supervise other players' activity. Due to multiplayer games allowing players to interact with other individuals, they provide an element of social communication absent from single-player games. The history of multiplayer video games extends over several decades, tracing back to the emergence of electronic gaming in the mid-20th century. One of the earliest ins ...

D-pad
The D-pad (short for directional pad) is a compact input method developed for video games, designed to translate thumb movement into directional control through a flat, cross-shaped surface that rests on four internal switches. Each switch corresponds to a cardinal direction (up, down, left, and right), while diagonal inputs engage two switches simultaneously, enabling eight-directional control at 45-degree intervals. Beneath the center, a pivot mechanism tilts the pad, preventing all four switches from being pressed at once and enhancing tactile feedback. When introduced, the D-pad offered a space-saving, precise input method at a time when bulky joysticks dominated the market. Although analog sticks have largely superseded D-pads as the primary directional input in modern gamepads, the D-pad’s compact, intuitive, and versatile design has led to its adoption in a wide range of devices, including remote controls, calculators, personal digital assistant, PDAs, mobile phones, and ...

Level (video Games)
In Video game, video games, a level (also referred to as a map, mission, stage, course, or round in some older games) is any space available to the player during the course of completion of an objective. Video game levels generally have progressively increasing difficulty to appeal to players with different skill levels. Each level may present new concepts and challenges to keep a player's interest high to play for a long time. In games with linear progression, levels are areas of a larger world, such as Green Hill Zone. Games may also feature interconnected levels, representing locations. Although the challenge in a game is often to defeat some sort of character, levels are sometimes designed with a movement challenge, such as a jumping puzzle, a form of obstacle course. Players must judge the distance between platforms or ledges and safely jump between them to reach the next area. These puzzles can slow the momentum down for players of fast action games; the first ''Half-Life ...

Video Game Compilation
A video game compilation is a type of product bundling in which different video games are available for purchase as a special collection. They are often stored on the same physical media or digital package, making use of menu interfaces that allow players to select the game they want to play. They are a form of video game preservation. History The Nintendo Entertainment System received official multicart compilations that re-released earlier games, such as '' Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt / World Class Track Meet and Donkey Kong''. In the early 1990s, Codemasters, an unlicensed publisher, used multicarts to release brand new games in their ''Quattro'' compilations. ''Action 52'', released by Active Enterprises, is infamous for its low quality. Pirate Nintendo compilations often included ROM hacks that replaced character sprites. Following a new interest in retro gaming in the 1990s, companies began re-releasing their back catalog in video game compilations commercially, su ...

Holiday Shopping Season
A holiday is a day or other period of time set aside for festivals or recreation. ''Public holidays'' are set by public authorities and vary by state or region. Religious holidays are set by religious organisations for their members and are often also observed as public holidays in religious majority countries. Some religious holidays, such as Christmas, have become secularised by part or all of those who observe them. In addition to secularisation, many holidays have become commercialised due to the growth of industry. Holidays can be thematic, celebrating or commemorating particular groups, events, or ideas, or non-thematic, days of rest that do not have any particular meaning. In Commonwealth English, the term can refer to any period of rest from work, such as vacations or school holidays. In American English, "the holidays" typically refers to the period from Thanksgiving to New Year's (late November to January 1), which contains many important holidays in American cultu ...
