"Sometime Around Midnight" is a song by American indie rock band The Airborne Toxic Event. It was released as the second single from their self-titled debut album (2008) on February 2, 2009, in the UK. The song peaked at number 115 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, number 29 on the Wallonia Ultratop chart in Belgium, and number 33 on the UK Singles Chart. Composition The song is about a night when lead singer Mikel Jollett met a former girlfriend while out at a bar, during which he discovered that he still loved her. The entire band was present during this event. The lyrics to the song were written in isolation by Jollett over the course of the next three days. The Airborne Toxic Event
The Airborne Toxic Event is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2006. It consists of Mikel Jollett (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steven Chen (guitar, keyboards), Adrian Rodriguez (electric bass, backing vocals), Daren Taylor (drums), and Miriam "Mimi" Peschet (backing vocals, violin). Anna Bulbrook (vocals, violin) and Noah Harmon (electric bass) were formerly members of the band. KCRW (89.9 MHz FM) is a National Public Radio member station broadcasting from the campus of Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California, where the station is licensed. Mikel Frans Jollett (born May 21, 1974) is an American musician and author. He is best known as the frontman for American indie rock band the Airborne Toxic Event as well as the author of the ''New York Times'' bestselling memoir ''Hollywood Park'' (2020). Early life Jollett was born in Santa Monica in the experimental commune society called Synanon. Until he was five, he and his older brother were raised apart from their parents in Synanon schools. Jollett's father had been incarcerated in Chino State Prison from 1963-1966 prior to joining Synanon where he overcame a heroin addiction. Jollett's mother was a social worker with a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, who met Jollett's father in Synanon. ''The Airborne Toxic Event'' is the debut studio album by American rock band The Airborne Toxic Event. It was first released on August 5, 2008, through Majordomo Records. It was later re-released by Island Records on March 16, 2009, following the band's signing to the label. The entire album was recorded using a recording studio in the home of Pete Min, the band's producer. The album was released in the UK on February 9, 2009 and features three bonus tracks. The album's first single, "Gasoline", was released on November 17, 2008.
