Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust was a National Health Service trust which managed mental health services in the English county of Somerset. The trust was formed in 2008, taking over the role from the Somerset Partnership NHS and Social Care Trust which had been operating since 1999. It merged with Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust to form Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in 2020. The trust developed out of the institution established by the Bridgwater Infirmary in the nineteenth century. Edward Colgan, the chief executive, spoke at a tribute to William Baker and John Bowen (heroes of a cholera epidemic of 1849) in September 2013. The trust was involved in an important legal case (''KL v Somerset Partnership NHS Trust'') which clarified the law about community treatment orders under the Mental Health Act 2007. Mental Health Trust
A mental health trust provides health and social care services for people with mental health disorders in England. There are 54 mental health trusts. They are commissioned and funded by clinical commissioning groups. Patients usually access the services of mental health trusts through their GP (primary care medical doctor) or via a stay in hospital. Most of the services are for people who live in the region, although there may be specialist services for the whole of the UK or services that accept national referrals. Mental Health Trusts may or may not provide inpatient psychiatric hospital services themselves (they may form part of a general hospital run by a hospital trust). Taunton And Somerset NHS Foundation Trust
Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust was an NHS trust which managed Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. It merged with Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to form Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in 2020. Dr Sam Barrell was appointed Chief Executive in February 2015. Merger The trust submitted a bid in 2014 to take over Weston Area Health NHS Trust, which had announced that it was not viable in its present form, but the bid was not successful. In 2018, the trust announced plans to merge with Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, a mental health trust. The merger completed in 2020. It manages a number of hospitals providing mental, community and acute hospital care across the whole county. In April 2023, the trust merged with Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to form a single trust covering the whole county. Bridgwater Infirmary
Bridgwater is a large historic market town and civil parish in Somerset, England. Its population currently stands at around 41,276 as of 2022. Bridgwater is at the edge of the Somerset Levels, in level and well-wooded country. The town lies along both sides of the River Parrett; it has been a major inland port and trading centre since the industrial revolution. Most of its industrial bases still stand today. Outpatient commitment—also called assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) or community treatment orders (CTO)—refers to a civil court procedure wherein a legal process orders an individual diagnosed with a severe mental disorder to adhere to an outpatient treatment plan designed to prevent further deterioration or recurrence that is harmful to themselves or others. This form of involuntary treatment is distinct from involuntary commitment in that the individual subject to the order continues to live in their home community rather than being detained in hospital or incarcerated. The individual may be subject to rapid recall to hospital, including medication over objections, if the conditions of the order are broken, and the person's mental health deteriorates. The Friends and Family Test was introduced into the English NHS in 2013. It was a single question survey which asked patients whether they would recommend the NHS service they have received to friends and family who need similar treatment or care. The friends and family question: “We would like you to think about your experience in the ward where you spent the most time during this stay. How likely are you to recommend our ward to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment? Crewkerne ( ) is a town and electoral ward in Somerset, England, southwest of Yeovil and east of Chard all in the South Somerset district. The civil parish of West Crewkerne includes the hamlets of Coombe, Woolminstone and Henley – and borders the county of Dorset to the south. Chard is a town and a civil parish in the English county of Somerset. It lies on the A30 road near the Devon and Dorset borders, south west of Yeovil. The parish has a population of approximately 13,000 and, at an elevation of , Chard is the southernmost and one of the highest towns in Somerset. Administratively Chard forms part of the district of South Somerset. The name of the town was ''Cerden'' in 1065 and ''Cerdre'' in the Domesday Book of 1086. After the Norman Conquest, Chard was held by the Bishop of Wells. The town's first charter was from King John in 1234. Any Qualified Provider is a contractual system within the NHS internal market of the English National Health Service. The system was introduced under the Labour administration in 2009/10 when it was called "Any Willing Provider" - The policy continued and was accelerated under the newly formed coalition Government and changed its name in 2011 to become "Any Qualified Provider." Its implementation was achieved through the NHS operating framework and a strong central team based in the Department of Health that supported and oversaw local implementation.
