Somaliland National Television (SLNTV, Somali: Telefishanka Qaranka Somaliland) is a Somali television channel. It is the official public service station of the government of Somaliland. Founded in 2005, it broadcasts from the country's capital of Hargeisa via terrestrial transmission, as well as to other parts of Africa and the Middle East, and Europe and Asia through satellite. The channel focuses on general Somali news, particularly items on the regional authorities. It also carries sports, entertainment and humanitarian programs. History Somaliland had its first private television stations in 1997. SLNTV started broadcasting in 2005, ahead of the parliamentary election held on 29 September. In high-definition television (HDTV) and video display technology, 1080i is a video display format with 1080 lines of vertical resolution and Interlaced video, interlaced scanning method. Somali Broadcasting Corporation
Somali Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) is a media group that operates in the Puntland region of Somalia, in particular the three main cities of Bossaso, Qardho and Garowe. SBC's broadcasting area of coverage is estimated at 1000 square km, and this is served by three stations in the above towns. SBC was established in June 2001. Its first FM radio services were established in the Puntland region and it was the first FM Radio which could be heard in three cities in Somalia. In November 2001, Somali Broadcasting Corporation established the first television service in Puntland. This is now on air for test and it will go on air completely at the end of November 2018. Horn Cable TV (HCTV) is a Somali news-based private television channel. Overview Founded in 2003, Horn Cable TV broadcasts in Somali from its headquarters in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland. The national emblem of Somaliland (, ), was introduced on 14 October 1996 along with the flag of Somaliland, when it was approved by the National Conference. It was introduced by Abdullahi Abdi Omar (Jawaan). Description The emblem consists of an equally balanced scales symbolising justice between the citizens of Somaliland, the coffee-coloured eagle of Saladin holds the scales as a sign of democracy, two hands shaking representing the equality and freedom between the people of Somaliland, an olive branch symbolising peace amongst the people of Somaliland, a yellow background representing the bright, beautiful culture and people of Somaliland.
