Somali League
The Somali First Division ( so, Heerka Koowaad ee Soomaali), Somali League, or Somali Premier League, is the Somali professional league for men's association football. It has been active for over 50 years, having been established in 1967. Somalia has 10 professional clubs playing for the Somali First Division. Football is the most popular sport in Somalia. In the 1930s, Italian Colonial Authorities established some of the first teams in Somalia. In the 2021-22 season, Horseed won the Somali First Division. Heegan FC (formerly Somali Police FC until 2013) is a Somali football club based in Horseed, a district of Merca. History The club was founded in the Port of Merca in 1950 by descendants of Italian colonists in Merca during the ONU mandate. Jeenyo United Football Club is a football club based in Mogadishu, Somalia History The club was established in 1948, and was originally named SC Genio Officina. Most of the players came from the former teams "Societร Calcistica Mogadiscio" and "Amaruini", that played amateur football in the Italian Somalia from 1936 until 1941. They won Division One of the Campionato di Calcio in 1952, and were renamed Lavori Pubblici (''Public Works'') for the 1953โ54 season, due to its links with the Ministry of Public Works. They were champions again in 1959โ60, defeating Autoparco 3โ2 on aggregate in a two-legged championship play-off after the two clubs had finished joint top-of-the table.
