Solitreo
Solitreo () is a cursive form of the Hebrew alphabet. Traditionally a Sephardi Jews, Sephardi script, it is the predecessor of modern cursive Hebrew currently used for handwriting in modern Israel and for Yiddish. The two forms differ from each other primarily in that Solitreo uses far more typographic ligatures than the Modern Hebrew script. Historically, Solitreo served as the standard handwritten form of Judeo-Spanish in the Balkans and Turkey, that complemented the Rashi script character set used for printing. In Sephardi communities in the Maghreb and the Levant, it was used for Hebrew language, Hebrew and Judeo-Arabic languages, Judeo-Arabic manuscripts. While both the Balkan and Maghrebine-Levantine forms are called Solitreo, they are quite distinctive and readers familiar with one type may find the other difficult to read. Cursive Hebrew
Cursive Hebrew ( , "flowing Hebrew writing", or , "Hebrew handwriting", often called simply ', "writing") is a collective designation for several styles of handwriting the Hebrew alphabet. Modern Hebrew, especially in informal use in Israel, is handwritten with the Ashkenazi cursive script that had developed in Central Europe by the 13th century. This is also a mainstay of handwritten Yiddish language, Yiddish. It was preceded by a Sephardi cursive script, known as Solitreo, that is still used for Judaeo-Spanish, Ladino. Rashi Script
The Rashi script or Sephardic script () is a typeface for the Hebrew alphabet based on 15th-century Sephardic semi-cursive handwriting. It is named for the rabbinic commentator Rashi, whose works are customarily printed in the typeface (though Rashi himself died several hundred years before the script came into use). It was taken as a model by early Hebrew typographers such as Abraham Garton, the Soncino family and Daniel Bomberg in their editions of commented texts (such as the '' Mikraot Gedolot'' and the Talmud, in which Rashi's commentaries prominently figure).
