Arent Solem
Arent Bjørnsen Solem (22 October 1777 – 8 February 1857) was a Norwegian merchant and a prominent member of the Haugean Movement (''haugianere''). Background Arent Bjørnsen Solem was born in Klæbu, Søndre Trondhjems Amt, Norway. He was born to farmer Bjørn Olsen Solem (1742–1797) and his wife Magnhild Olsdatter ( 1742–??). Although little is known about Solem's early life, it is known that he traveled to Trondheim where he worked as a carpenter. He later made success as a merchant and property investor in Trondheim, before he established a flax weavery in Moholt. Career He became a successful entrepreneur and trusted follower of Hans Nielsen Hauge, leader of the Haugean Movement. He married Randi Nideng (née Lauvaas) in the beginning of the 19th century, with whom he maintained a hospitable home. Erik Solem
Erik Toralf Solem (23 August 1877 – 15 July 1949) was a Norwegian judge. He was born in Kristiania. He worked as a Supreme Court barrister from 1905, district stipendiary magistrate (''sorenskriver'') from 1912 to 1927 and acting professor of jurisprudence from 1931 to 1932. He served as a Supreme Court Justice from 1938 to 1948, except for the period between December 1940 and May 1945, during the German occupation of Norway. During those years, he was a member of the Norwegian resistance movement´s leadership and viewed as the successor of Paal Berg should Berg die. Following the end of the occupation he was active in the legal purge, as an ''ad hoc'' presiding judge in Eidsivating. Jeff Solem is a retired American soccer player who spent four seasons in the North American Soccer League. He is currently the president of Uhlsport USA. Solem attended Emory University, where he holds several school soccer records. He was inducted into the school's athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. In 1973, he Solem signed with the Atlanta Apollos of the North American Soccer League. In 1974, he moved to the Denver Dynamos for two seasons. Johndale C. Solem (born 1941) is an American theoretical physicist and Fellow of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Solem has authored or co-authored over 185 technical papers in many different scientific fields. He is best known for his work on avoiding comet or asteroid collisions with Earth and on interstellar spacecraft propulsion. Education and career At Yale University, Johndale C. Solem earned his B.S. ''cum laude'' in Physics in 1963 and his Ph.D. in physics in 1968. His Ph.D. thesis work under Glen A. Rebka, Jr. was on dynamic nuclear polarization in deuterium hydride. Oscar Martin "Ossie" Solem (December 13, 1891 – October 26, 1970) was an American football player, coach of football and basketball, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa (1920), Drake University (1921–1931), the University of Iowa (1932–1936), Syracuse University (1937–1945), and Springfield College (1946–1957), compiling a career college football record of 162–117–20. From 1913 until 1920, Solem was the head coach of the Minneapolis Marines, prior to that team's entry into the National Football League (NFL). Randi Solem
Randi Andersdatter Solem (1775 – 27 February 1859), née Randi Lauvaas, was a religious organiser. She was married to Arent Bjørnsen Solem. She was born in Klæbu, Sør-Trøndelag, to the farmer Anders Halvorsen Løvaas (c. 1730) and his wife Maren Larsdatter Forsæt (c. 1744). On 25 May 1797, Solem married the soldier Haagen Erichsen Nideng, who died the following year. While she was mourning she was visited in Trondheim by Hans Nielsen Hauge, leader of the Haugean Movement (''haugianere''). She was influenced by his engaging speeches, and traveled with him across the country and helped him with book binding in Bergen the following year. Hauge became quickly aware of her leading abilities. In 1802, Solem was mentioned in a small publication as one of five out of thirty people he gave status as one of the "oldest" or most respected.
