Sold (Died Pretty Album)
''Sold'' is the sixth album by Australian rock band Died Pretty. It was released in 1996 and peaked at No. 29 on the ARIA album charts. The album was the last to include drummer, Nick Kennedy, who left during recording; he was replaced in the sessions by Shane Melder, on loan from Sidewinder. It was co-produced by former Radio Birdman vocalist Rob Younger, who had produced the band's 1986 debut '' Free Dirt'', and Wayne Connolly, who went on to co-produce their next two albums. Singer and song co-writer Ron Peno said the album's lyrics, inspired by the departure of his long-time girlfriend, were very personal. He told the ''Herald Sun'': "Every song can actually move me to tears. It was something I had to get out of my system. It was something that was happening in my life and it stopped happening and I'm trying to get over it." Died Pretty
Died Pretty, sometimes The Died Pretty, were an Australian alternative rock band founded by mainstays Ron Peno (lead singer) and Brett Myers (lead guitarist and backing vocalist) in Sydney in 1983. Their music started from a base of early electric Bob Dylan with psychedelic influences, including The Velvet Underground and Television. They were managed by John Needham, who is the owner of Citadel Records, their main label. Died Pretty's 1990s albums, '' Doughboy Hollow'', ''Trace'' and '' Sold'', appeared on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Charts but they had more success on the alternative scene. ''The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop'' or ''Rock and Pop'' by Australian music journalist Ian McFarlane is a guide to Australian popular music from the 1950s to the late 1990s. The book has a similar title to the 1978 work by Noel McGrath, '' Australian Encyclopaedia of Rock and Pop'', but is not otherwise related. Publishers, Allen & Unwin described McFarlane's encyclopedia as containing over 870 entries and an "essential reference to the bands and artists who molded the shape of Australian popular music ..in an A-to-Z encyclopedia format complete with biographical and historical details. Each entry also includes listings of original band lineups and subsequent changes, record releases, career highlights, and cross-references with related bands and artists." ''Ronald Stephen Peno (26 July 1955 – 11 August 2023), who also performed as Ron S. Peno and Ronnie Pop, was an Australian Rock music in Australia, rock singer and songwriter who fronted Died Pretty from 1983 to 2021. Prior to forming ''Died Pretty'' (1983-2002), Peno was founder and frontman of punk band ''The Hellcats'' (1976-1977), followed by hard rock band ''The 31st'' (1979-1981) and a brief stint with The Screaming Tribesmen (1981). Radio Birdman
Radio Birdman is an Australian punk rock band formed by Deniz Tek and Rob Younger in Sydney in 1974. ''Classic Rock'' magazine describes them as "Australia’s first influential punk band". History Origins Deniz Tek and Rob Younger formed Radio Birdman in the mid-1970s (around 1974) in Sydney, Australia, having recently left their former projects, TV Jones and the Rats. Sidewinder (band)
Sidewinder were an Australian indie pop group founded in 1990 in Canberra by Pip Branson on guitar, Martin Craft on bass guitar and backing vocals, his brother Nick Craft on lead guitar and vocals, and Giri Fox on drums. Early in 1994 Shane Melder replaced Fox on drums and in the next year the group relocated to Sydney. Sidewinder were staples of the Australian alternative rock scene in the 1990s and released two studio albums, ''Atlantis'' (January 1996) and ''Tangerine'' (September 1997).
