Nahum ben Joseph Samuel Sokolow ( ''Nachum ben Yosef Shmuel Soqolov'', ; 10 January 1859 – 17 May 1936) was a Jewish-Polish people, Polish writer, translator, and journalist, the fifth President of the World Zionist Organization, editor of ''Ha-Tsfira'', researcher, Zionist leader and statesman. Biography Sokolow was born in 1859 in the shtetl of Wyszogród near Płock in the Russian Empire (today in Poland) to a rabbinic family. His father, a descendant of Rabbi Nathan Nata Spira ("Megaleh Amukot"), moved to Płock in 1865. Sokolow studied in the study houses of Wyszogród, Płock, Lowicz, Sompolno, Koło, Kutno, and others. A polyglot, he studied foreign languages from a young age, becoming fluent in Russian, German, English, French, and Italian literature. Anna Sokolow
Anna Sokolow (February 9, 1910 – March 29, 2000) was an American dancer and choreographer. Sokolow's work is known for its social justice focus and theatricality. Throughout her career, Sokolow supported the development of modern dance around the world, including in Mexico and Israel. At the beginning of her career, Sokolow was a principal dancer in the Martha Graham Company. Sokolow soon became an independent choreographer, who went on to form multiple dance companies throughout her life. Sokolow choreographed for and set her work on companies around the world, including major companies such as Batsheva Dance Company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Jose Limón Dance Company, Joffery Ballet and the Daniel Lewis Dance Company. He frequently works with writing partner Joel Cohen. Deb Sokolow (born 1974) is an American visual artist who lives and works in Chicago. Sokolow's work uses both image and text to conjure connections among historical events, celebrities, politicians, and her own personal history in order to spur new consideration of alternate possible realities.
