Sogadu Shivanna
Sogadu Shivanna is a senior politician associated with Bharatiya Janata Party, Karnataka. He has served as Minister of Environment under Jagadish Shettar and as Minister of Sericulture under H. D. Kumaraswamy. Political career Shivanna contested 1994 Karnataka Assembly election on a BJP ticket from Tumkur City and defeated the sitting MLA S. Shafi Ahmed of Congress by a margin of 9104 votes. He went on to retain the seat in 1999 & 2004 election. He was inducted as a Minister in the Kumaraswamy cabinet which was supported by the BJP on 25 January 2007 and was allotted the Sericulture Department. In 2008 election, he managed to retain seat. In July 2012 he was inducted into the cabinet of Jagadish Shettar and was allotted Environment portfolio. The Government of Karnataka, abbreviated as GoK or GoKA, formerly known as Government of Mysore (1956–1974), is a democratically elected state body with the governor as the ceremonial head to govern the Southwest Indian state of Karnataka. 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election
The 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election took place in three phases on 10, 16 and 22 May 2008 in all the 224 assembly constituencies in Karnataka, India. The elections were conducted to elect a Government in the state of Karnataka for the next five years. The votes were counted on 25 May and due to the use of electronic voting machines, all the results were out by the afternoon itself. The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious winning 110 seats. Although the party fell short of a clear majority, it was able to form the government with the support of 6 independents. This was the first time BJP came to power on its own in Karnataka and any south Indian state. Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) was an Indian political party based in Karnataka state. It was founded in 2012 and disestablished in 2014, merging with the Bharatiya Janta Party. It was headed by Chief Minister of Karnataka, Karnataka Chief minister B. S. Yeddyurappa. Yeddyurappa had resigned as a Member of Legislative Assembly and from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 30 November 2012. The party was formally launched in a convention at Haveri on 9 December 2012, wherein thousands of people participated. Scores of former and sitting legislators, ministers and senior functionaries of the BJP joined the party along with Yeddyurappa. Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa (born 27 February 1943), often referred to by his initials BSY, is an Indian politician. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he has served as the chief minister of Karnataka for four terms, and was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 1983 to 2022, though his tenure was not continuous throughout that period. In 2008, Yediyurappa assume office as the chief minister of Karnataka after leading the BJP to victory in the state's legislative assembly elections, marking the first occasion on which the BJP formed a state government in South India. In 2011, he resigned after being indicted over a corruption case, from which he was acquitted in 2016.
