Sofia Dolgorukova
Princess Sofia Alekseevna Dolgorukova (Russian: Софья Алексеевна Долгорукова; 1887–1949), née Countess Bobrinskaya (house of Bobrinsky), was a Russian surgeon, pilot and racing driver. Daughter of Aleksei Aleksandrovich Bobrinsky. She was one of the first female racing drivers and pilots in the Russian Empire and the world. Sofka Skipwith (born Sophia Dolgorukova; 23 October 1907Sofka Zinovieff, ''Red Princess: A Revolutionary Life'', 2007, New York: Pegasus, 2008, . – 26 February 1994 Frida Knight"Obituary: Sofka Skipwith" ''The Independent'' 8 March 1994.) was a Russian princess who, after working for Laurence Olivier and being interned by the Nazis in France in World War II, worked to save Jews from the Holocaust. Dolgorukov Family
The House of Dolgorukov ( rus, Долгору́ков, p=dəlɡɐˈrukəf) is a knyaz, princely Tsardom of Russia, Russian family of Rurikid stock. They are a cadet branch of the Obolensky, Obolenskiy family (until 1494 the rulers of Obolenskoye, Zhukovsky District, Kaluga Oblast, Obolensk, one of the Upper Oka Principalities) and as such claiming patrilineal descent from Mikhail of Chernigov (d. 1246). The founder of the Dolgorukov branch of the Obolenskiy is Prince Ivan Andreevich Obolenskiy (15th century), who for his vengefulness was given the nickname of ''Долгорукий'' (''Dolgorukiy''/''Dolgoruky''), i.e. "far-reaching". Count Aleksei Aleksandrovich Bobrinsky (, 31 May 1852 – 2 September 1927) was a Russian historian and statesman from the Bobrinsky family. Biography Bobrinsky was born in St. Petersburg. His great-grandfather, the first Count Bobrinsky, had been the son of the Russian empress, Catherine the Great and Count Grigory Orlov. Aleksei attended St. Petersburg University and worked in the Chancellery of the Committee of Ministers. He was elected Marshal of Nobility of St. Petersburg Uezd, 1875–1878. In 1878 he was elected Marshal of Nobility of St. Petersburg Gubernia. He also presided over St. Petersburg Zemstvo assemblies. For over thirty years Bobrinsky was chairman of the Imperial Archeological Commission, which under his guidance greatly increased its financing and staffing.
