Sodexo Live! Gold Cup
The Sodexo Live! Gold Cup is a Premier Handicap National Hunt race in Great Britain. It is a handicap steeplechase and is run at Ascot in late October or early November, over a distance of about 3 miles (2 miles, 7 furlongs and 180 yards, or 4,791 metres). History The race was first run as the United House Gold Cup on 28 October 2006 as a Class 2 race. It was worth £100,000 and was run over three miles. In 2009 the race was upgraded to Listed class and was further upgraded to Grade 3 in 2011. Sodexo sponsored the race from 2015 to 2020 and Bateaux London have been the sponsors since 2021. Ascot Racecourse
Ascot Racecourse is a dual-purpose British racecourse, located in Ascot, Berkshire, England, about 25 miles west of London. Ascot is used for thoroughbred horse racing, and it hosts 13 of Britain's 36 annual Flat Group 1 races and three Grade 1 Jumps races. The racetrack's current grandstand was completed in 2006. Ascot Racecourse is visited by approximately 600,000 people a year, accounting for 10% of all UK racegoers. The racecourse covers leased from the Crown Estate, and enjoys close association with the British Royal Family. Ascot was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne of Great Britain, Queen Anne and is about from Windsor Castle. Royal stands have been in use at the sports venue since the late 18th century. David Pipe (racehorse Trainer)
David Pipe (born 7 February 1973) is a British horse racing trainer based in Somerset, England. He is the son of 15 time champion trainer Martin Pipe. Early career Pipe started riding in point to points in 1992 and scored 22 wins in 5 seasons, and 2 under rules - including on Bonanza Boy in the Ludlow Gold Cup. After retiring from the saddle he would begin learning the training craft across the globe spending time with Michael Dickinson, Criquette Head-Maarek and Joey Ramsden. Training career Pipe began training point to point horses and had great success with 164 winners over six seasons. In April 2006, he took over the training licence from his father Martin Pipe. Sam Thomas (born 22 June 1984) is a retired Welsh National Hunt jockey who is now a horse trainer. He is best known for winning the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup with Denman. Across his career as a jockey, Thomas won 509 races and earnt £5.59 million prize money in Great Britain and a further €255,815 in the Republic of Ireland. Personal life Thomas was born in Abergavenny, Wales. He rode in point to points before graduating to race riding. Racing career Thomas began his racing career with David Evans in Wales. Charlie Deutsch
Charlie Deutsch is a multiple Grade I winning British National Hunt jockey. In 2018, he was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for dangerous driving. Racing career Deutsch began his racing career with Charlie Longsdon in 2013 before moving across to Venetia Williams in Herefordshire. He fell in his first ride for Williams. Deutsch won the Grade 3 Betfair Handicap Chase at Cheltenham with Aachen in 2015. He would win the race again in 2021 with Commodore making him joint leading jockey in the race. Jonjo O'Neill (jockey)
John Joseph "Jonjo" O'Neill (born 13 April 1952) is an Irish National Hunt racehorse trainer and former jockey. Life and career He was born in Castletownroche, County Cork in Ireland. Based at the Jackdaws Castle training establishment in England. O'Neill twice won the British Champion Jockey title (1977–78 & 1979–80) and won the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the mare, Dawn Run who became the only horse to complete the double of winning the Champion Hurdle and the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival. Jamie Moore (born 31 January 1985) is a retired English National Hunt jockey. Over a career spanning 23 seasons he rode 968 winners including seven wins in Grade 1 races. The highlight of his career was winning the 2014 Queen Mother Champion Chase on Sire de Grugy, trained by his father. Background Moore has a family background in racing.
