Socialist Party of Croatia (Croatian language, Croatian: ''Socijalistička stranka Hrvatske'' or ''Socijalistički savez Hrvatske - Savez socijalista Hrvatske'', ''SSH'') was a left-wing political party in Croatia. Before the arrival of multi-party democracy to Croatia, SSH existed as Socialist League of Working People of Croatia (), mass-umbrella organisation for all political organisations other than Croatian Communist Party. Before the 1990 parliamentary elections, SSRNH rebranded itself into SSH, just like Communists rebranded themselves into Social Democratic Party of Croatia. At the election, two parties acted as a bloc and ultimately lost. While SDP continued to exist nominally as the strongest opposition in Parliament, SSH, after losing its reason for existence, began to slowly fade away. Croatian (; ) is the standard language, standardised Variety (linguistics)#Standard varieties, variety of the Serbo-Croatian pluricentric language mainly used by Croats. It is the national official language and literary standard of Croatia, one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, the Serbian province of Vojvodina, the European Union and a recognized minority language elsewhere in Serbia and other neighbouring countries. Social Democratic Action of Croatia ( or ASH) was a Croatian left-wing political party. It was founded by 1994 by members of Social Democratic Party of Croatia dissatisfied with the centrist policies of SDP leader Ivica Račan and his lack of criticism towards Franjo Tuđman. The party had high hopes of gathering support beyond disenchanted SDP voters after Croatian Spring leader Miko Tripalo left Croatian People's Party in order to join them. In 1994, they tried to force an all-left party coalition in Croatia for the upcoming elections. The idea was rejected by Ivica Račan and SDP so they failed to realise it. ''Novi Plamen'' () was a left-wing journal for political, social and cultural issues primarily aimed at intellectual audiences in the former Yugoslavia and the related diaspora. It was a leading publication of its kind in the region, covering the entire post-Yugoslav space. It was published by the ''Demokratska misao'' () publishing company based in Zagreb and largely sold at kiosks. Its editors-in-chief were Mladen Jakopović (pseudonym Daniel Jakopovich), Ivica Mladenović and Professor Goran Marković. ''Hrvatska ljevica'' () was a left-wing monthly magazine in Croatia issued from 1994 to 2005. It was published by the independent publishing house Razlog. It was discontinued following the death of its main editor and owner, Stipe Šuvar, the former Minister of Culture and Vice President of Yugoslavia. Stipe Šuvar (17 February 1936 – 29 June 2004) was a Croatian politician and sociologist who was regarded to have been one of the most influential communist politicians in the League of Communists of Croatia (SKH) in SR Croatia in the 1980s during Yugoslavia. He entered top politics in 1972 being co-opted to the Central Committee of SKH. Two years later he became SR Croatia's minister of education and performed a controversial educational reform in Croatia.
