Social Liberal Party (Brazil)
The Social Liberal Party (, PSL) was a far-right political party in Brazil, that merged with the Democrats and founded the Brazil Union. Founded in 1994 as a social-liberal political party, the PSL was registered on the Superior Electoral Court in 1998. In January 2018, former Social Christian Party politician Jair Bolsonaro joined the party and later converted it into an economically liberal, Brazilian nationalist, radically anti-communist and social conservative party. The original name remained after the ideological shift, and after Livres (the party's original main wing) left the party and formed their own political movement to continue the party's original goals. Bolsonaro became the party's nominee for the 2018 Brazilian general election and won in both rounds. Bolsonaro left the party in 2019 after disagreements with its president, Luciano Bivar, and then founded Alliance for Brazil. Luciano Bivar
Luciano Caldas Bivar (born 29 November 1944) is a Brazilian politician and businessman. He is current a Deputy for Pernambuco as well as leader of the Brazil Union. Previously he was Social Liberal Party presidential candidate for the 2006 Brazilian general election. He received 0.06% of the total vote and did not progress to the second round. He was President of the Social Liberal Party from 2018 until it merged with the Democrats to become the Brazil Union. Livres () is a Brazilian economic liberal political movement. The political scientist Magno Karl is Livres' current executive director. Livres has 25 members holding public office positions, among them one senator ( Rodrigo Cunha from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party in Alagoas), seven federal deputies, and eight state deputies and nine city councillors, along with economists, political scientists, and more than three thousand registered activists. Livres went on to grow as a liberal wing of the PSL and control the party's political agenda, communication, and 13 out of its 27 state directories. Brazilian nationalism is the nationalism of Brazilian people and Brazilian culture. It became strong during the declaration of Independence of Brazil, in the 19th century. History Brazil was initially a colony of Portugal, established during the Portuguese colonization of the Americas. Jair Messias Bolsonaro (; born 21 March 1955) is a Brazilian politician and former military officer who served as the 38th president of Brazil from 2019 to 2023. The Social Christian Party (, PSC) was a Christian-conservative political party in Brazil. In the 2018 election, the party elected 2 Governors, 1 Senator, 9 Federal Deputies and 30 State Deputies. In 2022, it announced plans to merge with Podemos. The merge was approved by the Superior Electoral Court on 15 June 2023. History The party was founded in 1985, as a Christian democratic party. The party supported Fernando Collor de Mello in the presidential election of 1989, and in 1990, the party won first place in the state election for Alagoas, the home state of then-President Collor.
