Social Film
A social film is a type of Interactive cinema, interactive film that is presented through the lens of social media. A social film is distributed digitally and integrates with a social networking service, such as Facebook or YouTube. It combines features of web video, social network games and social media. Key elements Social films are a more recent phenomenon, and, in turn, there are few precedents for their format. Murmur (company)
Murmur is a hybrid studio/technology company that creates and distributes social films. It was formed in 2010 by producer Mike Knowlton and writer/director Hal Siegel. Murmur released its first film, ''Him, Her and Them'' in April 2011. As the first ever social film, it was distributed as a Facebook application. The film blends conventional visual formats like video and photography with social media capabilities such as comments and utilization Facebook's friend and profile picture functionalities. Murmur's next project is currently in development. Knowlton says that "It takes the idea of Social mechanism, social mechanics, of viral marketing, loops, a step further." Interactive Cinema
Interactive cinema tries to give an audience an active role in the showing of movies. Another newer definition of interactive cinema is a video game which is a hybrid between participation and viewing, giving the player – or viewer, as it were – a strong amount of control in the characters' decisions. It is compared to interactive film. This form of media recently has become more relevant. Companies like Netflix have even began coming out with releases that have this different way of consumption. Crowdsourcing involves a large group of dispersed participants contributing or producing goods or services—including ideas, votes, micro-tasks, and finances—for payment or as volunteers. Contemporary crowdsourcing often involves digital platforms to attract and divide work between participants to achieve a cumulative result.
