From the early colonisation of the Victorian gold rush, Victorian Gold rush, mostly British migrants or students participated in a variety of ball games similar to British Association rules (soccer), rugby or the Australia game for recreation from late 1800s to the early 1900s. British migrants employed at the emerging industries took part in formal games in Geelong from at least 1914 when the Geelong City club was formed. World War 1 interrupted the establishment of the game in the region. Branko Culina
Branko Culina (; born 1 October 1957) is a soccer coach and former player. He previously managed Sydney FC and the Newcastle Jets in the A-League. Playing career Culina was born in Zadar, Socialist Republic of Croatia, FPR Yugoslavia and emigrated to Australia with his mother in 1968, at the age of 10, settling in Melbourne's Croatian community. His senior playing career began with St. Albans Saints where he captained the senior team at the age of 15. In 1974, he transferred to Essendon Croatia, he had seven successful years at the club which included winning the Victorian State Championship in 1978 and the Victorian treble (State Champions, Dockerty Cup and the State League Cup) in 1979. The Geelong Community Cup is an annual pre-season soccer tournament held in Geelong for men and women. The Cup was established in 1981 by the Geelong Advertiser newspaper led by soccer writer Bill Walsh, Bob Kocsiki, Billy Dorris and Jim Lippelgoes. The cup is one of the longest continuously run cup competitions in Victoria. It has been known as the Geelong Advertiser Cup (1981- 2005), the Geelong Community Shield, the Diversity Cup, Century 21 Cup, Go-for-your-Life Cup, Morris Finance Cup and is now named the Geelong Community Cup. Deakin Ducks Football Club is an Australian amateur soccer club based in the Victorian city of Geelong. The club has senior teams across Men's State League 5 West competition and local men's and women's teams in various divisions of the Geelong football league. Elcho Park
Elcho Park is a soccer facility located on Gibbons Road in Lara, Victoria, a northern suburb of Geelong. It is owned privately by the Australian Croatian Soccer Association Geelong. The tenants of the facility are National Premier Leagues Victoria side North Geelong Warriors FC. North Geelong Warriors played their first season out of Elcho Park in 1986. The first competitive league game at the venue was a 3–3 draw between North Geelong and Essendon City on 29 March 1986. The main grandstand, which is situated between the clubrooms and the pitch, seats about 200 people. Corio Soccer Club is an Australian semi-professional soccer club in Bell Park, Geelong, Australia. Corio's senior men's team currently competes in the Victorian State League 1. Junior teams play in the local football competitions run by the Geelong Regional Football Committee. Geelong Rangers Football Club is an Australian soccer club based in Geelong, Australia. The club currently competes in the Victorian State League Division 2 North-West, the fifth division of the Australian soccer league system.
