''Soccer America'', the oldest soccer-specific media publisher in the United States, was founded in 1971 by Clay Berling in Albany, California. The magazine is headquartered in Oakland, California. History The magazine was founded by Clay Berling in 1971 under the name Soccer West. In 1972, the name changed to Soccer America because the magazine had begun fulfilling subscriptions nationwide. A weekly print magazine throughout most of its history, Soccer America was included in the Chicago Tribune's selection of "The 50 Best Magazines" in 2003. Soccer America launched its web site in 1995, its e-letters in 2001, and discontinued its print magazine in 2017. Ahmet Güvener
Ahmet Güvener is a Turkish football administrator and former Secretary General of Turkish Football Federation (TFF) between the years 2009 and 2010. During his tenure as Secretary General he developed the first Strategic Plan of the TFF. He also held the positions of Chairman of the National Referee Committee between the years 1993 and 1995 and Director of Football Development between the years 2008 and 2009 for the TFF. He is the only European football professional that held all three positions. Early life and education Ahmet was born on 12 September 1953 in Istanbul. Paul Gardner (journalist)
Paul Gardner (born May 15, 1930 in Ramsgate, England) is an American soccer journalist and author. He has written more than one thousand columns for Soccer America. He covered American soccer for England's World Soccer magazine since 1973. His books include ''The Simplest Game'', ''Nice Guys Finish Last'' and ''SoccerTalk: Life Under the Spell of the Round Ball.'' Career Gardner studied pharmacy at the University of Nottingham and from 1953 through 1959, as a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, worked in London as the assistant editor of Pharmacy Digest. Gardner immigrated to the United States in 1959 and became the managing editor of a medical magazine. He started covering American sports for British publications in 1961, when his feature on Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle’s pursuit of Babe Ruth's 60-home run record appeared in The Observer.
