Snowy-cheeked Laughingthrush
The snowy-cheeked laughingthrush (''Ianthocincla sukatschewi''), also known as Sukatschev's laughingthrush, is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It is endemic to northern China where its natural habitat is temperate forests. It is threatened by habitat loss. The snowy-cheeked laughingthrush was at one time placed in the genus ''Garrulax'' but following the publication of a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study in 2018, it was moved to the resurrected genus ''Ianthocincla''. Valentin Lvovich Bianchi
Valentin Lvovich Bianchi (Russian: Валенти́н Льво́вич Биа́нки; 18 February 1857 – 10 January 1920) was a Russian ornithologist. He is honoured in the common and scientific names of Bianchi's warbler (''Seicercus valentini''), described by Ernst Hartert. Of Italian descent, Bianchi graduated from the Imperial Military Medical Academy as a military doctor (1882). There years later, he was working as a general practitioner in the rural district of Staritsa, when Professor Eduard Brandt, learning about his interest in ornithology, invited him to join the staff of his alma mater. He moved to the Zoological Museum in 1887. Bianchi was the Head of the Department of Ornithology at the Imperial Academy of Sciences from 1896 to 1920. ''Ianthocincla'' is a genus of passerine birds in the family Leiothrichidae. Taxonomy The genus ''Ianthocincla'' was erected by English ornithologist and bird artist John Gould in 1835 with the spotted laughingthrush as the type species. The name of the genus combines the Ancient Greek ''ionthos '' "young hair" or "down" with the New Latin ''cinclus'' "thrush". The species now placed in the genus were previously assigned to ''Garrulax'' but following the publication of a molecular phylogenetic study in 2018, ''Garrulax'' was split up and some of the species were moved to the resurrected genus ''Ianthocincla''.
