Snowfall (horse)
Snowfall (9 February 2018 – 11 January 2022) was a Japanese-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2021 Epsom Oaks, Irish Oaks, and Yorkshire Oaks. She showed promising but unremarkable form as a two-year-old in 2020, winning one minor race from seven starts. The following year she improved dramatically, winning the Group 3 Musidora Stakes and then taking the Epsom Oaks by a record margin of sixteen lengths. She went on to win emphatic victories in the Irish Oaks and the Yorkshire Oaks over older horses. Snowfall was euthanized on 11 January 2022 following an injury in her stable. Background Snowfall was a bay filly with a white sock on her left hind leg, bred in Japan by Roncon, Chelston Ire & Wynatt, a breeding company associated with John Magnier's Coolmore Stud. John Magnier
John Magnier (born 10 February 1948) is an Irish business magnate. He is a leading thoroughbred stud owner and has extensive business interests outside the horse-breeding industry. Magnier was a senator in the upper house of the Oireachtas, Seanad Éireann from 1987 to 1989. He is based at Coolmore Stud at Fethard in County Tipperary, considered one of the world's best stallion stations. Marialite (Japanese マリアライト, foaled 19 February 2011) is a Japanese retired Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She was slow to mature and did not race until she was three years old when she won two minor races. She finally emerged as a top class performer in 2015 when she won the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup. In the following year she recorded her biggest victory when she defeated male opposition to take the Takarazuka Kinen and received the JRA Award for Best Older Filly or Mare. A Shin Hikari (japanese language, Japanese エイシンヒカリ, foaled 3 May 2011) is a retired Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. He began his racing career as a three-year-old in 2014 when he won his first five races including the Listed Ireland Trophy. In the following year, he won the Mijakooji Stakes, Epsom Cup and Mainichi Okan in Japan before establishing himself as one of the best racehorses in the world with a victory in the Hong Kong Cup. Kizuna () (foaled 5 March 2010) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Tokyo Yushun in 2013. Background Kizuna is a brown horse with a small white star and white socks on his hind legs, bred in Japan by the North Hills Co Ltd. He was sired by the outstanding Japanese racehorse Deep Impact out of the Canadian-bred mare Catequil. She was one of the leading two-year-old fillies in Japan in 2013 when she won the Niigata Nisai Stakes and was narrowly beaten in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies. is a retired Japanese thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. In 2012 she won the Japanese Fillies Triple Crown and was voted Japanese Horse of the Year. She was also the first three-year-old filly to win the Japan Cup, in 2012, and the following year became the first two-time winner of that race. The Arima Kinen (有馬記念) is a Conditions races, Grade I Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Japan open to Thoroughbreds three-years-old and above and the world's largest betting horserace. It is run in late December each year, over a distance of 2,500 metres (approximately 1 mile and furlongs) at Nakayama Racecourse. It is one of the two "All-Star" races in Japanese horse racing; the other is the Takarazuka Kinen in late June. The is a horse race held twice a year in Japan, once in the spring and once in the autumn. "Tenno" means "Emperor of Japan". The races are both International Grade 1 races. Prior to the 2007 races, both Tenno Sho races were Japanese domestic Grade 1 races. Spring The Spring Tenno Sho is held at Kyoto Racecourse, in late April or early May.
