Snowdon Race
The Snowdon Race () is a ten-mile endurance running competition in Gwynedd, from Llanberis to the peak of Snowdon. Contestants must make the five miles up the Llanberis Path to the summit ( above sea level) and return down. Currently entrants must be over-18 to compete in either the men's or women's race. In 2009 a junior race was incorporated. The race was first held in 1976 when Ken Jones from Llanberis put forward the idea to the village's Carnival Committee. 86 runners took part in the first race. In 2010, nearly 500 runners competed, with the nations represented including Scotland, Italy and Kenya. The men's course record stands at 1:02:29, set by Kenny Stuart in 1985. The women's course record stands at 1:12:48, set by Carol Greenwood in 1993. Timothy Davies (runner)
Timothy "Tim" Davies (born 1977) is a Welsh athlete who specialises in mountain and fell running. Born in Welshpool, Wales, Tim was raised into a family with a farming background and was heavily influenced by the hills surrounding him during his childhood. Many of his family run, most notably his brother Andrew Davies. Davies was fifth in the World Mountain Running Trophy in 2003, also winning a silver medal at the 2004 European Mountain Running Championships in the team event alongside Andi Jones and John Brown. At the European Mountain Running Championships 2006 he finished in seventh position in the individual race, just behind Jones. Davies is a three-time winner of the Snowdon Race, and became the first Welshman to win it twice in succession. In 2010 he won the British Fell Running Championships. John Wild (runner)
John Richard Wild (born 13 February 1953) is a male English former runner who competed in cross country, fell running, and the 3000m steeplechase. Athletics career The early part of Wild’s running career was focused on cross country and track. He won the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships in 1974 and 1980. He represented England in the 3,000 metres steeplechase event at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Also in 1978, he won the Cross de San Sebastián and in 1980, he was victorious at the Cross Internacional Juan Muguerza. Wild represented his country at the World Cross Country Championships, finishing in fifteenth place in the 1978 edition. In 1981, Wild won the British Fell Running Championships at his first attempt. Simon Bailey (runner)
Simon Roger Arthur Bailey (born 23 January 1980) is an English runner who has been a national fell running champion several times and who has represented his country at the World Mountain Running Trophy. He is the son of Roger and Vanessa Bailey of Rushton Spencer near the border between Staffordshire and Cheshire. Bailey’s potential was noticed when he finished second in the Shutlingsloe Fell Race at the age of fourteen and he was encouraged to focus on fell running by the race winner Dave Neill. As young athletes, Simon and his sister Kate both became national champions in their age groups and represented England in the junior races at the World Mountain Running Trophy in 1999, when Simon finished in fifth place and Kate was the bronze medallist. Tracey Brindley
Tracey Brindley (born 25 August 1972) is a British runner who has been a medallist at the World Mountain Running Trophy and a national fell running champion. Brindley won the individual bronze and a team gold medal at the World Trophy in Girdwood, Alaska, in 2003. She improved her individual result to second place at the 2005 World Trophy which was held in Wellington. She won the over-35 women's race at the World Masters Mountain Running Championships in 2007 and finished second in the mountain race at the Commonwealth Mountain and Ultradistance Running Championships in 2011. Mark Kinch
Mark Kinch (born 11 April 1963) is an English former runner who was a national fell running champion and represented his country at the World Mountain Running Trophy in the mid-1990s. As a youth, Kinch competed in the 3000m steeplechase but spent time away from the sport in his early twenties. On his return, he had some good but not outstanding results in cross country and road races. After being introduced to fell running and changing coaches to Tony Hulme, he began to have greater success. Kinch won both the British and English Fell Running Championships in 1994 and retained the titles the next year. In 1996, he lost them to Ian Holmes, with Holmes noting some years later that the rivalry with Kinch had helped him to reach the best form of his life. Ian Holmes (runner)
Ian Holmes (born 4 December 1965) is an English fell runner who was the national champion several times in the 1990s and 2000s and represented his country at the World Trophy and European Trophy. At school, Holmes played rugby, but after a back injury, his running became a priority. In the early 1990s, he spent some time as a ski instructor near Bolzano and his training there significantly improved his fitness. Returning to England, Holmes settled in Keighley and began racing regularly on the fells. He first represented England at the 1992 World Trophy. He was selected for some of the later World Trophies and also ran at the European Trophy. Among other international races, Holmes won the Mount Kinabalu Climbathon in record time in 1998 and returned to win again the following year when he held off Simon Booth in a close finish. Mark Croasdale
Mark Croasdale (born January 1965) is an English athlete who was a British fell running champion and competed in cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympics. The early part of Croasdale’s sporting career was centred on skiing. He became a member of the Royal Marines’ ski team and displayed sufficient talent to be invited to train with the national ski team. He was a British champion and represented his country on many occasions in international cross-country skiing competitions. He competed in the 10k classical and 15k freestyle events at the 1992 Winter Olympics. Having taken up running as training for his skiing, Croasdale began to obtain good results as a runner. Colin Donnelly
Colin Kerr Donnelly (born 5 September 1959) is a Scottish runner who was the British fell running champion three times and finished second in the World Mountain Running Trophy. Early life Donnelly is a son of Raymond Donnelly, a sometime racing cyclist. Colin attended Eastwood High School, Newton Mearns and was a member of the Cambuslang Harriers. He showed some talent as a youngster, winning the Galloway and Renfrewshire Schools under-19s cross country championships. His first hill race was at Ben Lomond in 1978. The following year, he won the Ben Nevis Race and in 1980 finished a close second in the Three Peaks Race. He graduated in Arts from the University of Aberdeen. Running career The peak of Donnelly's running career was in the late 1980s. In 1986 he had another victory at Ben Nevis in one of the fastest times ever recorded for the race.
