The Snapper Point Power Station is a gas turbine power station under development at Outer Harbor, South Australia, beside the older Pelican Point Power Station. Snapper Point Power Station is owned by Nexif Energy and is a peaking power plant to provide firm reliability for electricity supply contracts from Nexif's Lincoln Gap Wind Farm. Outer Harbor is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located at the northern tip of the Lefevre Peninsula about north-west of the Adelaide city centre. Pelican Point Power Station
The Pelican Point Power Station is located at Pelican Point, 20 km from the centre of Adelaide, South Australia on the Lefevre Peninsula. It is operated by Engie (previously known as GDF Suez Australian Energy), which owns 72 per cent of the power station. Mitsui owns the remaining 28 per cent. It burns natural gas in a combined cycle power station, comprising two 160 MW gas turbines and one 165 MW steam turbine, to generate up to 485 MW of electricity. Construction began in 1999. The plant has two GT13E2 gas turbines manufactured by ABB (now Alstom). The plant, including steam turbine and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), was manufactured and constructed by ABB. Nexif RATCH Energy is a Singapore-based company that owns and operates wind farms and other renewable energy projects in several countries. It is a joint venture of Nexif and RATCH Group Thailand PCL founded in December 2022. Lincoln Gap Wind Farm
The Lincoln Gap Wind Farm is a wind farm in the vicinity of Lincoln Gap on northeastern Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, Australia. It consists of 59 wind turbines and generates a total of 212 MW of electricity. Construction began in late 2017 and was initially expected to be commissioned in late 2018. Construction was delayed in July 2018 when unexploded ordnance was discovered on the site, left from historic military testing. The site is not far from the Cultana Training Area. Following Senvion's European parent company commencing insolvency proceedings, Vestas was engaged to provide maintenance services for the 126 MW first stage, and the 24 3.6 MW turbines for the second stage. Temporary Generation North
Temporary Generation North and its smaller sibling Temporary Generation South were gas turbine power stations in South Australia. They were bought by the Government of South Australia in 2017 as a response to the 2016 South Australian blackout and load-shedding in February 2017. Temporary Generation North was five open cycle gas turbines installed at the former Holden site in Elizabeth South, a northern suburb of Adelaide. It was closed in the first quarter of 2021 so that the turbines could be moved to become the Snapper Point Power Station at Outer Harbor. The generators were purchased to be used only in emergency shortfalls in electricity supply to the grid, such as in extreme weather.
