Boris Smolar
Boris "Ber" Smolar (May 27, 1897 – January 31, 1986) was a Russian-born Jewish-American journalist and newspaper editor from New York. Life Smolar was born on May 27, 1897 in Rivne, Russia, the son of Leivia Smolar and Miriam Shearer. Smolar received a secular-Hebrew education and learned Russian from his father, a Hebrew teacher. He graduated from a commercial course when he was thirteen and later worked as a bookkeeper in a manufacturer's office. He career in journalism began with correspondence pieces for the Warsaw paper '' Haynt''. In 1915, he became a correspondent for the Moscow Russian-language journal ''Voina i Evrei''. He travelled around the Eastern Front during World War I, and from 1916 to 1917 he published a series of articles called "Yudishe helder” (Jewish heroes" in the Odessa paper ''Unzer Leben'' to demonstrate Jewish soldiers' efforts in the war. He moved to Kazan following the 1917 Revolution, and he sat on the local council of worker and peasant deputies ...

Eugeniusz Smolar
Eugeniusz Smolar (born December 31, 1945) is a Polish journalist and member of the opposition movement during the People's Republic of Poland. He is the brother of Aleksander Smolar who is the head of the Stefan Batory Foundation in Warsaw, established in 1988 by American financier and philanthropist George Soros. He is son of prominent communist activist Grzegorz Smolar. Biography Under socialist Poland Smolar was a member of the opposition movement. He was imprisoned during his university studies in 1968 and 1969 for participating in student demonstrations protesting the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. In 1970, Smolar emigrated from Poland to Sweden and was involved in creating and publishing a political quarterly, '' Aneks''. He was involved in organizing aid for the Polish opposition and the Solidarity (Polish trade union) movement. Aleksander Smolar
Aleksander Smolar (born December 10, 1940 in Białystok) is a Polish writer, political activist and adviser, vice-president of Institute for Human Sciences and president of the Stefan Batory Foundation. He is son of prominent communist activist Grzegorz Smolar. Biography Between 1954 and 1957 Smolar belonged to the Polish communist youth organization Union of Polish Youth (''Związek Młodzieży Polskiej'') and then, until 1964, to the Union of Socialist Youth (). Smolar began his studies at the Warsaw Politechnic but soon transferred to Warsaw University to study sociology and economics. In 1962 he joined the Political Discussion Club initiated by Karol Modzelewski. He graduated in 1964. Adi Smolar (born 25 March 1959 in Slovenj Gradec, SR Slovenia, Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian singer-songwriter and composer. He made his first appearance in 1981 with a full repertoire of his own songs. He continued to perform for eight years before releasing his first tape ''Naš svet se pa vrti'' (Our World Keeps Spinning) in 1989. He lives in Slovenj Gradec.Adi's biography
