Smoky (dog)
Smoky (c. 1943 – 21 February 1957), a Yorkshire Terrier, was a famous war dog who served in World War II. She weighed only and stood tall. Smoky is credited with beginning a renewal of interest in the once-obscure Yorkshire Terrier breed. Biography Discovery and purchase In February 1944, Smoky was found by an American soldier in an abandoned foxhole in the New Guinea jungle. She was already a young adult Yorkie (fully grown). The soldiers initially thought the small dog belonged to the Japanese, but after taking her to a nearby prisoner-of-war camp they realized she did not understand commands in Japanese or English. Another GI then sold Smoky to Corporal William A. Wynne of Cleveland, Ohio, for two Australian pounds (equal to $6.44 at that time)—the price paid to the seller so he could return to his poker game.Wynne, William A. G.I. are initials used to describe the soldiers of the United States Army and airmen of the United States Air Force and general items of their equipment. The term G.I. has been used as an initialism of "Government Issue", "General Issue", or "Ground Infantry", and was used by the logistics services of the United States Armed Forces. During World War I, American soldiers sardonically referred to incoming German artillery shells as "G.I. cans". 26th Air And Space Intelligence Squadron
The 26th Intelligence Squadron is an intelligence organization of the United States Air Force, located at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado. It was first activated as the 26th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron during World War II. After training in the United States, the squadron deployed to the Southwest Pacific Theater, where it performed combar aerial reconnaissance missions, earning a Distinguished Unit Citation. Following V-J Day, the squadron moved to Korea, where it was inactivated in 1946. The squadron was active in the reserves from 1947 through 1949, then was activated again in 1955 as a Strategic Air Command Boeing RB-47 Stratojet reconnaissance unit. While continuing to fly the Stratojet, it transition to the medium bomber mission as the 681st Bombardment Squadron before inactivating in 1962. Coral
Corals are marine invertebrates within the class Anthozoa of the phylum Cnidaria. They typically form compact colonies of many identical individual polyps. The C-Ration, or Field Ration, Type C, was a prepared and canned wet combat ration intended to be issued to U.S. military land forces when fresh food (A-ration) or packaged unprepared food (B-ration) prepared in mess halls or field kitchens was not possible or not available, and when a survival ration ( K-ration or D-ration) was insufficient.
