The Smith River is a river in the Yukon Territory and the province of British Columbia, Canada, arising in the Yukon at and crossing the border to enter British Columbia at to its confluence with the Liard River at , between the confluences of the Toad and Coal Rivers. At the confluence is the site of the former Hudson's Bay Company trading post, Fort Halkett, and also Smith River Falls, which are jointly protected by Smith River Falls-Fort Halkett Provincial Park. The settlement of Smith River is located upstream at the confluence of Shaw Creek, and is the site of the third-coldest temperature on record in Canada. Smith River (Montmorency River Tributary)
The Smith River is a tributary of the east bank of the Montmorency River. It flows in the unorganized territory of Lac-Jacques-Cartier, in the La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of Capitale-Nationale, in the province of Quebec, in Canada. The upper part of this valley is served by the Sept Crans road which goes up from the south and bypasses the Mont du Lac Saint-Hilaire; a forest road serves the south bank of the lower part. Forestry is the main economic activity in this valley; second, recreational tourism. Because of its altitude, the surface of the upper Smith River is generally frozen from late November to early April; however, safe circulation on the ice is generally done from mid-December to the end of March. The lower part of the river course has a freezing period of about a week less than the upper part. The Smith River is a river located in central New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Pemigewasset River, part of the Merrimack River watershed. The Smith River begins at the outlet of Tewksbury Pond in Grafton, New Hampshire. The river flows southwest and then southeast through Grafton, passing through Kilton Pond. Continuing through Danbury, the river remains generally flat until shortly before reaching the Alexandria-Hill town line, where it enters a narrow valley and produces several miles of whitewater. Passing under the New Hampshire Route 3A bridge at the Bristol-Hill town line, the Smith River drops over Profile Falls and arrives at the Pemigewasset River. The Smith River is a tributary of the Umpqua River in the U.S. state of Oregon. It drains of the Central Oregon Coast Range between the watershed of the Umpqua to the south and the Siuslaw River to the north. Rising in northern Douglas County about north of Drain, the river flows generally west in a winding course through the mountains, passing through the Siuslaw National Forest for about in its lower course. It joins the Umpqua from the north across from Reedsport, about from the mouth of the Umpqua on the Pacific Ocean. The river is named for Jedediah Smith, who in 1828 led a party of explorers from Utah overland to northern California and southern Oregon. From California, they traveled north to the Umpqua River, camping along its banks near the mouth of the Smith River on July 13. An attack by Native Americans on July 14 killed 15 of Smith's party. Smith River is a tributary of the McKenzie River in Linn County in the U.S. state of Oregon. It begins near Browder Ridge in the Cascade Range and flows generally south through the Willamette National Forest to meet the larger river at Trail Bridge Reservoir, about upstream of the McKenzie's mouth on the Willamette River. Three named tributaries enter Smith River, all from the right. From source to mouth, they are Gate, Browder, and Bunchgrass creeks. Lakes End campground About halfway through its course, Smith River enters Smith Reservoir, which covers when filled to capacity. A United States Forest Service campground near the head of the lake is accessible only by boat from a launch at the south end of the reservoir, away. The Smith River is a river in the U.S. states of Virginia and North Carolina. It is a tributary of the Dan River, which it joins at Eden, North Carolina. According to the United States Geological Survey and regional histories, variant names are ''Irvin River'', ''Irvine River'', Irwin River, and ''Smith's River''. The Smith River is a tailrace stream, fed by water from Philpott Lake. Water flow is regulated at Philpott Dam according to the demands of hydroelectric power generation, downstream water temperature control, and adequate water levels for recreational use. From its source at Philpott Dam, the river runs 44.5 mi through Franklin County and Henry County before reaching the North Carolina border. Smith River, British Columbia
Smith River is an abandoned emergency airport and weather station in the Liard Country of far northern British Columbia, Canada. It is located southwest of the junction of Shaw Creek with the Smith River, which enters the Liard between the confluences of the Toad and Coal Rivers. During World War II Smith River was built up and used as an airport base as defense against the Japanese if they should ever invade the mainland of North America. Nathaniel Lebans, a World War I Sapper with the Royal Engineers, supervised the construction of the emergency airport. Nat, or Slim, Lebans was from Blackville, New Brunswick and when to England to join the Royal Engineers in 1917. A 6000 ft long runway was built at Smith River, and the government maintained it until the 1970s, at which time the airport was abandoned.
