After placing an advertisement in ''The Recycler'' for a drummer, they found Reeder, which completed the band's lineup for the next seven years as a trio. Encompassing genres of both grunge and psychedelic rock, they released their second record, called ''Resin''. Scott Reeder (drummer)
Scott Reeder is an American drummer who has been a member of Southern California stoner rock band Fu Manchu since 2002. Previously, he was a co-founder of the Orange County alternative rock band Smile. Reeder is known for his heavy drumming style, and refers to John Bonham of Led Zeppelin as one of his great influences. Reeder plays Ludwig Drums (often sporting psychedelic colors), Sabian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads and uses Vic Firth drumsticks, as stated on his MySpace page. He has also been known to mix his Sabian cymbal setup with Zildjian cymbals. With more than 25 years of drumming experience, Reeder teaches drumming in Orange County, when not touring or recording with Fu Manchu. ''Maquee'' is an album by Smile. It was released by Atlantic on July 18, 1995. Background Smile had originally finished recording the album by September 1994,Borzillo, p. 18. and it was released under the San Diego–based label Headhunter. Their album caught the attention of Atlantic Records, and Smile was soon offered a contract. Upon signing with Atlantic, the trio quit their day jobs and began touring the country. Part of the tour featured the band "Inch", and Smile stayed on the road for nearly a year and a half promoting ''Maquee''. Lyrically, the album plays with themes of fatalism, revenge, and Gothicism. The name of the album came from Reeder's best buddy from Barstow, who had the nickname "Maquee".
