Smedstadion
Smedstadion or Gröndals Motorstadion is a motorcycle speedway stadium located outside of Eskilstuna, Sweden. The stadium was opened in 2002 and is the home arena of Elitserien team Smederna who compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship. History The stadium was opened on 27 April 2002. The stadium was formerly known as Ikarosstadion from 2008 to 2009 due to sponsorship reasons from the company Ikaros. The stadium has hosted a World Championship round called the Speedway Grand Prix of Sweden in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and the Swedish Individual Speedway Championship The Swedish Individual Championship is a competition for Swedish Speedway riders, held each year to determine the Swedish national champion. Smederna
Smederna is a motorcycle speedway club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The club competes in the highest speedway league in Sweden called the Elitserien and race its home matches at Smedstadion outside Eskilstuna. Ikaros Smederna was formerly known as just Smederna but after making a sponsorship deal with company Ikaros in the fall of 2008 the club changed its name. However, this did not have the wanted effect on the club economy and in July 2009 the club went bankrupt and withdrew from Elitserien to restart in Division 1. Smederna has won six Swedish Speedway Team Championships, in 1973, 1977, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022, and were the home club of three individual world champions, Billy Hamill, Mark Loram and Nicki Pedersen. Eskilstuna
Eskilstuna () is a city and the seat of Eskilstuna Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden. The city of Eskilstuna had 67,359 inhabitants in 2015, with a total population of 100,092 inhabitants in Eskilstuna municipality (2014). Eskilstuna has a large Sweden Finn population. The town is located on the River Eskilstunaån, which connects Lake Hjälmaren and Lake Mälaren. History Eskilstuna's history dates back to medieval times when English monk Saint Eskil made "Tuna" his base and diocese of the South coast of Lake Mälaren. Saint Eskil was stoned to death by the pagan vikings of neighbouring town Strängnäs, east of Eskilstuna, trying to convert them to Christianity. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Daniel Bewley (born 10 May 1999) is a British international speedway rider. Career Bewley started riding for the Belle Vue Colts and as a reserve for the Edinburgh Monarchs in 2017. In 2017, he won the List of United Kingdom Speedway League Riders' champions, National League Riders' Championship before being promoted to the senior side (Belle Vue Aces) in 2017. The same year he won the 2017 Conference League Riders' Championship. In 2018, he finished runner-up to Robert Lambert (speedway rider), Robert Lambert in the British Speedway Championship, won the British Under-19 Final and claimed a third place in the second round of the Individual Speedway Junior World Championship, World Under 21 Championship series in Poland. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway. Kacper Woryna
Kacper Woryna (born 31 August 1996) is a Polish Speedway rider. Biography Born in Rybnik Woryna began racing in his native Poland in the Ekstraliga, with hometown club Rybnik. After a few years of riding in Poland, Woryna got his first break into British Speedway riding with the Coventry Bees during the 2016 Elite League season, who beat off competition from his grandfathers former club the Poole Pirates to secure his signature. Woryna was recommended to the Bees management by club captain and Speedway Grand Prix rider Chris Harris, and was also given a big thumbs up by another of his new Coventry teammates, former world number 2 Krzysztof Kasprzak. The following season he joined Poole and helped the team win the SGB Premiership 2018. In 2022, he helped Smederna win the Swedish Speedway Team Championship during the 2022 campaign.
