Slow River Records
Slow River Records was a Marblehead, Massachusetts-based independent record label. History Slow River Records was established by producer and musician George Howard in 1993. He operated it along with Anna Johansson. It obtained enough income and distribution capabilities to release its first record (a 7" by Desk) from singles released by Howard's band, the Lotus Eaters, on Harriet Records. In 1995, it entered into a joint venture with Rykodisc. In 1997, it was reported that the two labels had entered into a "wide-ranging agreement" whereby Rykodisc would give money to Slow River to help distribute and market each album that Slow River released. Marblehead, Massachusetts
Marblehead is a coastal New England town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, along the North Shore (Massachusetts), North Shore. Its population was 20,441 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. The town lies on a small peninsula that extends into the northern part of Massachusetts Bay. Attached to the town is a near island, known as Marblehead Neck, connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. Sparklehorse
Sparklehorse was an American indie rock band from Richmond, Virginia, led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous. It was active from 1995 until Linkous's 2010 death. Before forming Sparklehorse, Linkous fronted local bands Johnson Family and Salt Chunk Mary. Only one song, "Someday I Will Treat You Good", survived from these earlier bands to be played by Sparklehorse. Linkous said he chose the name Sparklehorse because the two words sounded good together and could be a loose metaphor for a motorcycle. Willard Grant Conspiracy (WGC) was an alt-country band based originally in Boston, Massachusetts and later near Palmdale, California, U.S. The band operated as a collective, with vocalist and songwriter Robert Fisher the only permanent member throughout its existence. Fisher's voice and Americana style have been compared to both John Cale and Johnny Cash, with most songs being acoustic. Lauren Hoffman (born 1977) is an American singer-songwriter. She released her debut album ''Megiddo'' through Virgin Records in 1997 to critical praise. In 1999 Hoffman independently issued her second LP ''From The Blue House'' and an EP, ''A Harmless Little Kiss.'' Her third album ''Choreography'' was released through French record label Fargo Records in 2006 and includes her single "Broken". She released her next album ''Interplanetary Traveler'' in 2010. Future Bible Heroes is an American indie pop group led by Stephin Merritt, best known for his work with The Magnetic Fields. Ed's Redeeming Qualities
Ed's Redeeming Qualities was an alternative folk group that was founded in Boston in 1988, and originally consisted of Dani Leone (vocals, ukulele), Dom Leone (vocals, guitar), Carrie Bradley (vocals, violin, guitar, and also of The Breeders), and Neno Perrotta (vocals, percussion). Dom Leone died of cancer in 1989. Jonah Winter joined the band for the albums ''Big Grapefruit Cleanup Job'' and ''At the Fish & Game Club''. ''The Boston Globe'' said of the band: "Ed's was the prototype for the little indie band that could." After playing in the Boston area for two years, the band moved to San Francisco. Of their album, ''More Bad Times'', ''Chicago Times'' critic Bill Wyman said, "I have a feeling ''More Bad Times'' is going to be one of those records I get obsessive about."
