SlowHill
SlowHill are a Finnish instrumental downtempo/ lounge band formed in 2002 by Slow (aka Vellu Maurola) and award-winning saxophonist Tapani Rinne. The band fuses downtempo beats into easy listening jazz atmospheres. History SlowHill have released four albums via various record labels. Their debut album, ''Finndisc'', was the first electronica album released by the jazz label Blue Note in Finland. It was subsequently released by Blue Note in the UK, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands. The band unearthed and sampled classic jazz records from the vaults of EMI Finland, which owns Blue Note's catalogue. Jazz artists sampled include Heikki Sarmanto, Teuvo Suojärvi, Mike Koskinen, Carita Holmström and Pekka Pohjola. Pohjola's sample, used on the track "Valo", was also used by DJ Shadow on his track "Midnight in a Perfect World" from ''Endtroducing.....''. Tapani Rinne
Tapani Rinne (born February 2, 1962) is a Finnish musician, composer, record producer and sound designer, who is known for his experimental and innovative style with the clarinet and saxophone. It has earned him a reputation as one of the most respected and unique Nordic instrumentalists. Rinne is most widely recognized as the foreman of the pioneering Finnish electro jazz group RinneRadio, but he has an established solo career with several albums of his own, too. As a record producer he has been also responsible for several albums made together with the Sámi yoik singer Wimme Saari as well as for the albums ''Kielo'' (1999) and ''Kluster'' (2002) by the experimental accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen. Slow or DJ Slow (born Vellu Maurola, 1975, in Vantaa, Finland) is a Finnish DJ and music producer. Slow is known for his nu-jazz style and for his production of commercial music for high-profile advertising projects for TV and cinema. Career Inspiration from hip hop acts such as Run-DMC, Public Enemy and Eric B & Rakim, led Slow to begin a career in DJing, later making music and remixing other people's tracks. In the year 1990 Slow met fellow DJ JA-Jazz when they worked together in the music department of a department store. With money from his evening job, Slow bought a pair of Technics turntables and some records. Pekka Pohjola
Jussi Pekka Pohjola (13 January 1952 – 27 November 2008) was a Finnish multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. Best known as a bass player, Pohjola was also a classically trained pianist and violinist. Pohjola rose to fame as the bass player of the Finnish progressive rock band Wigwam, but he soon departed on a solo career, initially releasing Frank Zappa–influenced progressive rock albums. As his career progressed Pohjola developed a more novel musical style that could best be described as fusion jazz. In addition to Wigwam and his solo albums, Pohjola played with the band Made in Sweden, and the bands of Jukka Tolonen and Mike Oldfield. Rauno Väinämö Lehtinen (7 April 1932 in Tampere – 1 May 2006 in Helsinki) was a Finnish conductor and composer. He composed the 1960s hit '' Letkis'' which was based on a folk-dance. Siiri Nordin (born 15 October 1980) is a Finnish singer. She was the lead singer of the now defunct Finnish rock band Killer. Biography Nordin was born in Helsinki. In 2003, she had a solo hit with the song "Sydämeni osuman sai", included on the soundtrack of the movie ''Helmiä ja sikoja''. Pekka Kuusisto (born 7 October 1976 in Espoo) is a Finnish musician. Biography Kuusisto comes from a musical lineage. Rajaton is a Finnish a cappella ensemble, founded in Helsinki in 1997. The Finnish word ''rajaton'' means "boundless", to indicate the breadth of their repertoire, from sacred classical to near Europop. Rajaton performs primarily in Finland but also tours around Europe and the rest of the world, having performed in over 25 countries. In 2005, Rajaton album sales reached 100,000 worldwide.
