Slovene Australians are Australian citizens who are fully or partially of Slovene descent or Slovenia-born people who reside in Australia. Tony Vidmar
Antony Vidmar (born 4 July 1970) is an Australian soccer coach and former player, who serves as an assistant coach with the Australia national team. He was a member of the Australia national team, competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona for his native country, and with 76 caps, is one of Australia's most capped players. His brother Aurelio Vidmar is also a former footballer. Club career Vidmar was born in Adelaide. His biggest impact in club football came whilst at Scottish side Rangers, for whom he played over 150 games and won the Scottish Premier League twice, the Scottish League Cup twice and the Scottish Cup three times. European Australians are citizens or residents of Australia whose ancestry originates from the peoples of Europe. They form the largest panethnic group in the country. At the 2021 census, the number of ancestry responses categorised within European ancestral groups as a proportion of the total population amounted to 57.2% (including 46% North-West European and 11.2% Southern and Eastern European). It is impossible to quantify the precise proportion of the population with European ancestry. For instance, many census recipients nominated two European ancestries, tending towards an overcount. Slovene Argentines
Argentines of Slovene descent, also Slovene Argentines or Argentine Slovenes ( sl, argentinski Slovenci) are the Slovenes residing in Argentina. According to Jernej Zupančič of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, they number around 30,000. History The Slovenes in Argentina are descendants of three main groups of immigrants that arrived from the Slovene Lands mostly in the 20th century. The first were economic immigrants from the Prekmurje region and the Hungarian Slovenes. The second, much stronger wave was represented by Slovenes from the Julian March who moved to Argentina in the 1930s to escape the Italian Fascist persecution; they came mostly from the Vipava Valley and the Kras plateau. Stan Rapotec
Stanislav Ivan Rapotec (4 October 1913 – 18 November 1997) was a Slovene-Australian artist. Early life Stanislav Rapotec was born in 1913 in Trieste, at that time part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1918 he moved with his family to Ljubljana, part of the newly created Yugoslavia. He studied economics at the University of Zagreb from 1933 to 1939. After military training as a reserve officer, he began his career with the National Bank of Yugoslavia in Split where he also developed his skill as an artist. World War II Rapotec was mobilized into the Royal Yugoslav Army before the invasion of Yugoslavia by Germany and Italy on 6 April 1941. He was taken prisoner by the Germans, but subsequently escaped to Split controlled by the Italian army. He escaped to Split, where he fought for the Yugoslavian government in exile. Dayne Zorko
Dayne Zorko (born 9 February 1989) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Zorko is a five-time Merrett–Murray Medallist and was selected in the 2017 All-Australian team. He was also the Lions' leading goalkicker in 2016 and 2017. Zorko has served as Brisbane Lions captain since midway through the 2018 season, after Dayne Beams stepped down from the captaincy. Ivan Rijavec
Ivan Rijavec (born 1951) is an Australian architect. Early life Rijavec was born in Trnovo, PR Slovenia, at the time part of Yugoslavia, in 1951. When he was one year old, his family emigrated to Australia, settling in a coastal town of Albany, Western Australia. Education Rijavec attributes his earliest architectural influence to the Italian structural engineer and architect Pier Luigi Nervi’s innovative work in concrete. He cites the spatial quality of Palazzo Dello Sport’s dome as having ignited his architectural interests when in 1968 he stumbled on a faded small black and white photograph of it in an engineering volume extolling the virtues of pre-cast concrete. Damian Mori (born 30 September 1970) is an Australian former association football, football player who is an assistant coach for Adelaide United FC, Adelaide United. Dana Faletic
Dana Faletic (born 1 August 1977 in Hobart) is an Australian former champion, national representative, World Champion and dual-Olympian rower. Her international representative success was as a sculler, though she represented her state of Tasmania in sculls and in sweep-oared boats. Club and state rowing Faletic was educated at Claremont College (Tasmania) where she took up rowing. She won the national Schoolgirl Scull title at the Australian Rowing Championships in 1994 and 1995. Her senior rowing was initially from the Huon Rowing Club and later the Lindisfarne Club, both in Tasmania. Faletic first represented her state of Tasmania in the women's youth eight of 1995 who competed for the Bicentennial Cup in the Interstate Regatta at the Australian Rowing Championships.
