Slieve Gullion (District Electoral Area)
Slieve Gullion is one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) in Newry, Mourne and Down, Northern Ireland. The district elects seven members to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and contains the wards of Bessbrook, Camlough, Crossmaglen, Forkhill, Mullaghbane, Newtownhamilton and Whitecross. ARK, accessed 8 July 2023 Slieve Gullion forms part of the Newry and Armagh constituencies for the Newry and Armagh (Assembly constituency), Northern Ireland Assembly and Newry and Armagh (UK Parliament constituency), UK Parliament. Newry, Mourne And Down District Council
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (Irish language, Irish: ''Comhairle Ceantair an Iúir, Mhúrn agus an Dúin'') is a local authority in Northern Ireland that was established on 1 April 2015. It replaces Down District Council and Newry and Mourne District Council and covers most of the Newry, Mourne and Down, southeast of Northern Ireland. The first elections to the authority were on 2014 Northern Ireland local elections, 22 May 2014. At the 2019 Northern Ireland local elections, Sinn Féin became the largest party with 16 seats. Jim McAllister
James McAllister (18 September 1943 – 9 April 2013), known as Jim McAllister, was an Irish republican activist and former politician from Ireland. Early life Jim McAllister was born on the Square in Crossmaglen in September 1943, one of seven children to Robbie McAllister, a cobbler, and his wife Katie. McAllister first became involved in the republican movement in the 1950s, at the end of the Border Campaign. McAllister joined Sinn Féin in 1962 as he wanted to fight injustice. In his late teens, McAllister emigrated to Britain, where he worked in the building trade. He returned to South Armagh in 1974 and soon became a leading figure in Sinn Féin. John Fee (politician)
John Fitzgerald Fee (7 December 1963 – 10 November 2007) was an Irish nationalist politician who served as a Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for Newry and Armagh from 1998 to 2003. Career Born in Newry, County Down, Fee was educated at St Patrick's Primary School in Crossmaglen, South Armagh, and St Colman's College, Newry before attending Queen's University Belfast. He worked as the Editor of the ''Creggan Historical Journal'' from 1986 before in 1988 becoming the Parliamentary Research Assistant to Seamus Mallon, the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) Member of Parliament for Newry and Armagh. Fee was elected to Newry and Mourne District Council for the SDLP in 1989, and in 1998 was chosen as one of Northern Ireland's representatives on the European Committee of the Regions.
