Later, clergy, artisans and merchants in cities took heritable names. Family names (surnames) were still used together with ''primary patronyms'' (father's name plus an affix denoting relationship), which were used by all social classes. This meant that most families until modern times did not have surnames. Scandinavian patronyms were generally derived from the father's given name with the addition of a suffix meaning 'son' or 'daughter' or by occupation like Møller - ( Miller ) naming tradition remained commonly used throughout the Scandinavian countries during the time of surname formation. Harald Bjarne Slettebø
Harald Bjarne Slettebø (1 April 1922 – 27 May 2018) was a Norwegian school worker and politician ( Fremskrittspartiet). Slettebø received his cand.real. from the University of Oslo in 1946. He worked as a teacher in Stavanger and Haugesund, and in 1959 he became rector of Stord gymnas, a position he held until 1989. In 1973, Slettebø was elected to the Stortinget for Anders Langes Parti in Hordaland. He sat for one term, and was a member of the Justice committee. In 1976–77, he was also parliamentary leader, after the party changed its name to Fremskrittspartiet. Ståle Slettebø (born 21 August 1964) is a retired Norwegian football midfielder. He came through the youth ranks of Drøbak-Frogn IL, making his senior debut in the early 1980s. He also represented Norway as a youth international.
