Slamboree (1997)
The 1997 Slamboree was the fifth Slamboree professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Championship Wrestling (WCW). It took place on May 18, 1997 from the Independence Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. As of 2014 the event is available on the WWE Network. Storylines The event featured professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Professional wrestlers portray villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Event Prior to the pay-per-view there were two dark matches. During the first match, Yuji Nagata defeated Pat Tanaka. Pat Tanaka
Patrick Tanaka (born August 5, 1961) is an American professional wrestler best known for his work in the American Wrestling Association (AWA) as one half of Badd Company and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) as one half of The Orient Express. is a Japanese Professional wrestling, professional wrestler, and former mixed martial arts, mixed martial artist and amateur wrestling, amateur wrestler signed to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). Mickie Jay Henson (January 2, 1963 – February 14, 2022) was an American professional wrestling referee. He was best known for his time with World Championship Wrestling from 1992 to 2001 and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) from 2005 to 2009. Brian Hildebrand
Brian Curtis Hildebrand (January 21, 1962 – September 8, 1999) was an American professional wrestling manager, wrestler and referee who sometimes went by the name of Mark Curtis. Although trained in brawling, technical, and high-flying wrestling techniques, he spent most of his career as a manager and referee. Career Hildebrand started out as a manager in 1984 in the independent territories in the northeastern United States at the age of 22. Randall "Pee Wee" Anderson (July 17, 1959 – May 5, 2002) was an American professional wrestling referee and amateur wrestler who worked for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA)'s Jim Crockett Promotions and World Championship Wrestling. David Penzer (born May 22, 1966) is an American professional wrestling ring announcer. He is best known for his work with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from 1993 to 2001, and Impact Wrestling from 2006 to 2010 and then from 2020 to 2023. Eugene Arthur Okerlund (December 19, 1942 – January 2, 2019) was an American professional wrestling interviewer, announcer and television host.
