Allan Slaight
John Allan Slaight (July 19, 1931 – September 19, 2021) was a Canadian rock and roll radio pioneer, media mogul, and philanthropist. His career began as an amateur magician before moving to radio. He was the founder of Slaight Communications, and the president and CEO of Standard Broadcasting Corporation Limited, which was Canada's largest privately owned multimedia company. He was an active philanthropist and founder of the Slaight Family Foundation. On September 19, 2021, he died at his home in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 90. Annabel Slaight
Annabel Slaight (''nee'' Gerald) is a Canadian author and former elementary school teacher. She is the co-founder of OWL, Chickadee, and Chirp magazines and a former producer of OWL/TV. Early life and education Slaight was born and raised in Toronto but enrolled at the Crofton House School in British Columbia for her high school education. She struggled throughout her schooling and eventually dropped out of the University of British Columbia. Career After dropping out, Slaight spent four years as a teacher before moving to Toronto to start a career in journalism. She then spent 10 years editing books and magazines before meeting Mary Anne Brinckman, a volunteer for the Federation of Ontario Naturalists (FON). Together, they established a non-profit entitled Young Naturalist Foundation (YNF) and persuaded the FON to support their children's magazine, OWL. Brad Slaight (born March 31, 1964), is an American comedian and television actor best known for starring in ''The Young and the Restless''. Slaight Communications
Slaight Communications is a Canadian radio broadcasting company. The company was formed as Slaight Broadcasting in 1971, when owner J. Allan Slaight acquired CFGM in Richmond Hill. Slaight later also acquired CFOX in Montreal and CHOK in Sarnia, and launched CILQ in Toronto. The company later sold off all of its original assets, and continued to operate its radio holdings through the Standard Broadcasting division after Slaight bought out that company in 1985. As Standard, it remained the largest privately owned multimedia company in Canada until it sold its radio and TV broadcasting assets to Astral Media in 2007. Today, all of Standard Radio stations are either owned by Bell Media or Stingray Radio.
