Skövde Garrison
Skövde garrison () is a Swedish Army garrison located in the county of Västra Götaland County, Västra Götaland, active since 1905. It is among the absolute oldest and largest Swedish garrisons. History Foundation In the Army Order of 1901, a decision was made to relocate all field regiments, previously housed in tents and huts, into more permanent barrack establishments. In 1902, after no suitable existing location was found, the Army was tasked with creating an agreement with the city of Skövde to grant land for new barracks to house the Life Regiment Hussars and the Göta Logistic Regiment, First Göta Service Corps. By 1905, the barracks stood complete, as the First Göta Service Corps moved its headquarters there in the autumn of that year, followed by the Life Regiment Hussars in the winter. Prince Carl of Sweden and Norway, Duke of Västergötland (27 February 1861 – 24 October 1951) was a Swedish prince. Through his daughters Märtha and Astrid, for whom he arranged dynastic marriages, he is an ancestor of current members of the Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg, Belgian royal family and Norwegian royal family. Göta Signal Corps
The Göta Signal Corps (), designations S 1 Sk and S 2, was a Swedish Army signal unit, one of the few new formations raised in the 20th century. It was disbanded in 1997. The unit was garrisoned in Västergötland. History The unit has its origins in a 1944 detached company, ''Signalregementets kompani i Skövde'', of Signal Regiment that was garrisoned in Skövde. The company gained the designation S 1 Sk (1st Signal Regiment, Skövde detachment), and was in 1958 upgraded to a separate battalion, and gained the designation S 2. The battalion was transferred to Karlsborg in 1961 and was renamed Royal Göta Signal Regiment in 1962 when it was upgraded to regimental size. The Swedish Army Paratroop School was attached to the regiment from 1961 until the regiment was disbanded in 1984. Western Military District (, Milo V), originally III Military District () was a Swedish military district, a command of the Swedish Armed Forces that had operational control over Western Sweden, for most time of its existence corresponding to the area covered by the counties of Gothenburg and Bohus, Älvsborg, Skaraborg (all three now joined as Västra Götaland County) and Halland. The headquarters of Milo V were located in Skövde. History Milo V was created in 1966 along with five other military districts as part of a reorganisation of the administrative divisions of the Swedish Armed Forces.
