Skånland Municipality
Skånland () is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Troms Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1926 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was merged into Tjeldsund Municipality. It was part of the Central Hålogaland region, just southeast of the Harstad (town), city of Harstad. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Evenskjer. Other villages included Grov, Troms, Grovfjord, Renså, Sandstrand, Troms, Sandstrand, and Tovik. Prior to its dissolution in 2020, the municipality was the 210th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Skånland Municipality was the 264th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 3,009. The municipality's population density was and its population had increased by 5.9% over the previous 10-year period. Skånland Church
Skånland Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tjeldsund Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located in the village of Evenskjer. It is the church for the Skånland parish which is part of the Trondenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a Churches in Norway#Floor plan, long church basilica style in 1901 using plans drawn up by the architect Carl J. Bergstrøm. The church seats about 400 people. History The first church built in Evenskjer was constructed in 1867 when it was still a part of the old Trondenes Municipality. The municipality bought the old Saltdal Church, took it apart, moved it to Evenskjer, and rebuilt it here to serve the people of the Skånland Municipality, Skånland portion of the municipality. Hermod Skånland
Hermod Skånland (15 June 1925 – 16 April 2011) was a Norway, Norwegian economist and civil servant, who served as the Norges Bank#List of Central Bank Governors, Governor of the Norges Bank, Central Bank of Norway from 1985 to 1993. Biography Skånland was born in Tromsø as a son of school director Peder Skånland (1885–1958) and teacher Margit Maurstad (1893–1977). He examen artium, finished his secondary education in 1944 and graduated with the cand.oecon. degree in 1951. He started working as a researcher in Statistics Norway, but already after one year he was hired in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Finance as a consultant. This was not uncontroversial, as he was arguably the least experienced of the applicants. Already in 1953 he had a tenure as acting assistant secretary.
