Skärstad Church
Skärstad Church () is a church building in Skärstad in Sweden. Belonging to the Skärstad-Ölmstad Parish of the Church of Sweden, it was built in the early 19th century, replacing a demolished 15th century church. The Diocese of Växjö () is one of 13 dioceses within the Lutheran Church of Sweden. Its episcopal see is located in the city of Växjö. Esaias Tegnér (; – ) was a Swedish writer, professor of Greek, and bishop. During the 19th century, he was regarded as the father of modern poetry in Sweden, mainly through the national romantic epic '' Frithjof's Saga''. He has been called Sweden's first modern man. Much is known about him, and he also wrote openly about himself. Early life His father was a pastor, and his grandparents on both sides were peasants. His father, whose name had been Esaias Lucasson, took the surname of Tegnérus—altered by his fifth son, the poet, to Tegnér—from the village of Tegnaby in the province of Småland, where he was born. Johan Magnus Almqvist
Johan Magnus Almqvist (September 6, 1799 – October 9, 1873) was a Swedish theologian and parliamentarian. Biography Almqvist was born in Stockholm, Sweden, to civil servant and vicar and Gustava Brandelius. He began his studies at Uppsala University in 1819 and thereafter studied at Lund University, receiving his master's degree in philosophy in 1823. The following year he was ordained. In 1830, Almqvist became vicar of Skärstad Church near Jönköping and remained so until his death. From 1844 to 1866 he was a contractual provost and member of the Riksdag of the Estates. As a politician, he was a liberal and belonged to the opposition party within the clergy against its conservative majority. With regard to criminal law, inheritance law, schools, etc., he belonged to the reformists and voted for the representation bill in the 1865 Riksdag.
