Skylarking (Horace Andy Song)
"Skylarking" is a single by Jamaican singer and songwriter Horace Andy, produced by Studio One founder Coxsone Dodd. The song, lyrically an admonishment of loitering youths who expect handouts, has been described as Andy's signature tune. It was first issued, rendered "Sky Larking", on Dodd's ''Jamaica Today - The Seventies'' compilation in 1971. The song became a popular sound system hit, prompting a release as a single on the Studio One subsidiary Bongo Man. It topped the Jamaican singles chart published in ''The Gleaner'' in August 1972. Andy cut the song again in 1974 for Bunny Lee, who licensed the recording to the UK-based Venture Records. A 1992 cover by Garnett Silk revived the song's popularity in Jamaica. Horace Andy
Horace Andy (born Horace Keith Hinds, 19 February 1951) is a Jamaican roots reggae songwriter and singer, known for his distinctive vocals and hit songs such as " Skylarking", as well as "Government Land", "Angel", "Spying Glass", and "Five Man Army" with English trip hop group Massive Attack. He is also famous for a cover version of " Ain't No Sunshine". Andy is often described as one of the most respected and influential singers in Jamaica. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora. Studio One (record Label)
Studio One is one of Jamaica's most renowned record labels and recording studios; it has been described as the Motown of Jamaica. The record label was involved with most of the major music movements in Jamaica during the 1960s and 1970s, including ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub and dancehall. History Studio One was founded by Clement "Coxsone" Dodd in 1954, and the first recordings were cut in 1963 on Brentford Road in Kingston. Coxsone Dodd
Clement Seymour "Coxsone" Dodd (26 January 1932 – 4 May 2004) was a Jamaican record producer who was influential in the development of ska and reggae in the 1950s, 1960s and beyond. He was nicknamed "Coxsone" at school due to his talent as a cricketer (his friends compared him to Alec Coxon, a member of the 1940s Yorkshire County Cricket Club team).
